need some advice on making this deck better. New player
« on: April 25, 2018, 05:09:48 am »
http://deck.tk/1jI171YX is the deck I'm working with. I have a fair amount of cards in stock, none all that great, feel free to check them out. I'm a new player and just starting to get a grasp on the game and loving it. I'm just looking for some advice on how to beef up the deck. I really like the swamp theme as well as vampire theme. Playstyle is probably a bit conservative, I like to build a bit and "set the board" before I go heavy offensive. I like to have answers for cards being played(control deck?) I thought about trying to change this deck up to maybe a blue black but for the life of me cant make it work. I tried netdecking and all of the blue black decks I saw were super expensive and I don't have the cards to do it. I do not have the ability to buy cards right now so I have to use what I have. Any tips and advice is greatly appreciated. Currently I only play with friends at home but would like to move on to FNM soon and then possibly on to more serious playing later.

One thing I recommend is looking through other decks, trying to find the interactions within.  You can go to details and toggle details on for prices on individual cards or total deck cost.  I will use a couple of my decks for examples.

Blue and Black pirates aiming to control the board in a pirates matter deck.  Siren's Ruse with Ravenous Chupacabra is good, netting you card advantage, and sometimes you just need something to go to your opponent's graveyard.  Hostage Taker and Siren's Ruse?  You keep your creature, potentially steal something from them and draw a card.  The deck does very well so far, and is typically unexpected.

Lifelink and tokens, but Gruesome Fate I have found to work exceedingly well, particularly in multiplayer.
