Standard:

Rix Maadi Reveler - if you are in topdeck mode, this draws you a free card in red. If you get spectacle online, its a 4 mana draw 3. I think this is a bit of a sleeper

Ritual of Soot - When a new set releases, weenies run rampant. This will keep them in check and might spike at the start of the new set.

Electrodominance - depends on whats released, but could break something accidentally

Kaya's Wrath - 4 mana sweeper with upside that is $2 ? sounds like a good spec

Long Term:

Glass of the Guildpact - 2 mana anthem that fits into a very specific style of deck. But will be at at least $2 at some point

Sphinx of Foresight - If the new mulligan rules sticks, this could be 'budget' Serum Powder

Guardian Project - Such a good EDH card, harder to remove than Beast Whisperer at the same cmc with less intense restrictions

Sphinx is very different from Serum Powder.. it pitches to Force and doesn't exile your hand :) major upgrade for vintage dredge if the new mull sticks

Smothering Tithe? It is mana ramp in white. Seems like an EDH staple for all of eternity. Personally I like it more than land tax because searching your library every turn to guaranteed hit land drops is more threatening than a dice that says 12 representing your treasures. Then you make like two-three big plays in a turn. :)

Good Luck!!

Oh and shock lands! But I think they'll go down once they rotate since they wont be in standard, but they will slowly start creeping up until another reprint. Got a booster box of the new expansion and I got each shock land except breeding pool. (Of the five in the set of course. Forget which ones they were.) Now I just need a damn steam vents.

The Immortal Sun has certainly spiked with the announcement of 36 PW's in the next set. Not sure how long it'll stay up in price.

Yea, because it's not possible for them to go up more in price.  ::)

Yeah, I could see it hit a higher price after War is released.

As you can see, sliver queen has gone up in price a lot, almost overnight. It was a steady $35 for a while. It more than doubled to $80 for a time. It was already high, but it went up even more. The immortal sun hasn't increased much since I bought mine, about $7, so it isn't like I was super lucky with timing or anything. I wouldn't mind paying another 7 bucks if I had to get it today, but I would most certainly not buy a sliver queen after that price spike.

So to void your argument, cards that are high in price can go up even more, and by a noticeable amount. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples across the inventory of mtg cards, but sliver queen is the first one I could think of.
