If you had a 7/7 with trample and an opponent had a 0/2 the 2 damage would be prevented and you opponent would take 5 as you only ever assign lethal damage to a creature unless the creature says otherwise so yeah the trample damage goes through.  This is the same for protection from as well.

No. It is different. There is no lethal damage because damage was PREVENTED and u don't trample..

Edit: I think??? This came up b4 but def couldve been given an incorrect ruling

Fog bank does not prevent trample damage so trample damage is not prevented protection prevents damage but trampl still goes through as well.

I have had this come up before in a tournament and even the judge had to look it up.   However I was right and it won me the game.

It is like Varatius said. Blinding fog just prevents the dmg that would be dealt to creatures.

"you only ever assign lethal damage to a creature" That's the key sentence.

A small addition: If this 7/7 Trample beast got deathtouch, it has to assign just one dmg to each blocker and the rest go through.

Yup, trample carries over damage prevention effects. Same is true for color protection effects as well.
