Early Game - Prevent damage that would be dealt by using pacifisms and counter-spells
Mid-Game and End-Game - Draw cards with cast cost reduced and control the battlefield

Yes the curve is high...but if you play against Aggro decks, you can switch high cost spell (Time wipe :1, Mass manipulation :1, Prison Realm :3, Planar Cleansing:1) by low cost creatures (Spirit Pirate :2, Cerulean Drake :
4). The cost of flying creatures can be reduced by -1 for each Warden of Evos Isle and the spell Winged Words by -1 if you have a flying creature on the battlefield.
