Yeah, that sounds expensive for a casual deck, even when we factor in the fact that you don't need the $ 1,300 lands base...

'casual' to me refers to the powerlevel of the deck. I plan on printing all of the cards to play with friends, so money is no issue here - and I didn't want a bad manabase get into the way of our fun. :)
