I like the basic concept, but looking at the various scarecrow creatures, they all suck in their Power/Toughness as a function of their CMCs.

Yeah, most of the scarecrows are awful. This is supposed to be an infinite flicker combo deck that only needs to have one scarecrow on the battlefield in order to function. My build isn't going to be particularly good because I don't want the friends I play with to hate me forever. I think with an appropriate number of tutors focusing on assembling the combo quickly, this would be devastating against all but competitive decks. Mass land destruction should lock everyone else out of the game.
