Improved Card Prices
« on: January 12, 2020, 07:03:30 pm »
I have just made some changes to our price database to improve the completeness and accuracy of our card prices.

In particular, we should now have better TCGPlayer prices for all the different versions of cards, including most promos, tokens, etc. We are also now showing the TCGPlayer "market price" where available, which should be a more accurate than the previous median prices were.

I have also fixed a few missing prices from our other price sources, such as Card Kingdom, Cardhoarder and Cardmarket.

If you have previously noticed some cards that were not being priced correctly, please have another look at them now and let me know if they have improved.

Why is there sometimes a big difference in the shown deck price when sorting the folder a deck is in by price and when looking at the in detail view?

I would like (either as a replacement or as an option) to be able to see Cardmarket trend prices rather than Cardmarket low, as that is more likely to reflect what I will actually end up paying for the cards when all is said and done, and is generally what people who use Cardmarket use as their baseline when trading cards between them the old-fashioned way.

some prices makes no sense since it checks for the art cards instead of the real card in modern horizon

The deck prices in the search are calculated assuming you are playing the most basic (cheapest) version of each card. The prices on the deck page may be higher if the author is playing cards from a more expensive set. So for example if someone has a deck with a promo in it, the price displayed in the search will be lower because it just uses the non-promo price, while the deck page will use the promo price.

Does this explain what you are seeing? If you are noticing discrepancies that are not fully explained by this please let me know.

Can you tell me an example or two so that I can check this?

Happy to go which whatever people prefer. I just made a quick poll here to see what the consensus is: https://deckstats.net/forum/index.php/topic,51896.0.html

In the detail view for my Izzet Phoenix deck, it's showing the total price as $203.05; I haven't set any specific printings for any cards, so it should be choosing the cheapest printing for everything (if that's the default here, too). However, in the folder view, the price is showing as $174.28: https://imgur.com/dHC6xss

It'd be understandable if it was a small discrepancy that could be explained away by when the numbers were pulled, but that difference seems too large.

Certain cards from Commander sets show the Card Kingdom price for the oversized foil versions, not the playable versions. (Ex. Estrid, the Masked and Saheeli, the Gifted)

Thank you for the example, I'll have a look if I can improve things. At the moment the price shown on the deck page will always be the more reliable one.

Will look into these as well, thanks!

There appears to be an issue with the database. Roughly half of my cards (roughly 1,400 of 2,700 unique entries) are no longer fetching prices from tcgplayer. Is this issue exclusive to me, or is anyone else having this problem?

Can confirm I am having the same problem. Lots of cards not grabbing prices from TCGplayer properly

I came here to report this exact thing. Some examples I've noticed it on are Cryptic Command and Entomb. I can provide more examples if needed. These kinds of cards in particular are causing there to be a big discrepancy with the deck I'm trying to price at the moment.

Thank you for reporting this.  I’m looking into getting it sorted ASAP. If you need US prices right now I would recommend looking at card kingdom pricing instead.

You can also click on the question marks to see the TCGPlayer card pages or click the button to add the whole deck to your cart to see the total price.

I'm sorry about the missing TCGPlayer prices. They are starting to come back now, with all prices being displayed again within the next 24h.

Update: TCG Player prices for all cards are now available again.

Hi Nils! Thank you for all the work you put in!
Looks like the trending prices are finally working; most of my budget builds are now showing more reasonable prices that probably reflect the actual purchase price were I to buy them. The most offended deck was an ultrabudget build that previously showed 3€ as the total price and now it's showing a more reasonable 25€. Again, thank you and I'm glad this works a lot better than before.
