In Tennessee (in the U.S.), it's gotten somewhat bad. Our governor is *cough* an absolute imbecile, so I have stopped trying to keep up with the day to day politics. Like in Maryland, we're out of school until late April, and, slowly, we are isolating. I'm mostly cut off from the outside world because my family started basically quarantining several weeks ago. I have gone out, like, once. My maternal grandparents grew up in the 1920-30s (Great Depression in the U.S.) and lived through WWII, so my mother grew up in a household where there always was a small stockpile of food. She does the same thing, so we're basically set. People are going crazy, though. For example: we had to go to 5 different stores to get enough milk to last us the week.
When people hoard, it pisses me off so much. It's obvious these stores have enough milk, toilet paper, etc. for everybody
because they have had enough in the past. All that is happening is artificial and motivated by
fear.
Of course, there's our "President" saying one thing, and the White House medical officials (and medical officials in the U.S. in general) saying another thing, so I have no idea how our country will handle this problem.
I'm happy to hear other countries like the UK is reimbursing people and making sure the economy doesn't just
crash and burn. Wish I could say the same for our country. Most of what's trying to get passed is a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo that I really don't understand, but I believe what's going on is something like this? Correct me if I'm wrong.
The Republicans are fighting for a bill that gives somebody in the government a large state-funded lump sum of money. That person is then allowed to distribute that money amongst the American people, corporations, etc. without much oversight. <-- Not good.
Right now, it also seems that large corporations are receiving cuts and benefits to stay afloat, while similar legislation designed to help smaller businesses "is underway". Please pray for those of us in the U.S. I think our government as a whole is too divided by party lines and Trump's conflicting messages to effectively address this pandemic. We'll see in the upcoming weeks.
CleanBelwas, I don't even know what to say. I desperately hope your family stays safe. Please update us as much as you are willing. We love you bro <3.
