I'm also trying to fit Illuminator virtuoso into a deck, and disciplined duelist is an option I hadn't noticed before, which can be good especially if you play noble hierarch on turn 1 and disciplined duelist on turn 2 wich will also protect itself for turn 3 where you can pump it and attack for the win!

As a protection spell I highly recommend emerge unscathed, its been working really fine for my because you get to protect you creature one turn and make it unblockable the next turn. Also it gives 2 triggers for illuminator virtuoso and 2 magecraft triggers if you are running clever lumimancer as I am.

Some removal like path to exile also seems important, it's also really budget right now at 3 euros each.
