Set of Five Intro Decks
« on: June 21, 2013, 04:03:21 am »
I built a set of five monocolored decks out of my extra cards for the purpose of teaching Magic to people completely new to the game.  Since the idea is that the decks would be played against each other, I'm hoping for feedback on how to make the decks more even in power.  As these decks are for teaching and not serious play, I'm perfectly willing to accept ways to weaken some decks as well as ways to make them better.

White is here: http://deckstats.net/decks/4826/19289-white-intro
Blue is here: http://deckstats.net/decks/4826/19291-blue-intro
Black is here: http://deckstats.net/decks/4826/19290-black-intro
Red is here: http://deckstats.net/decks/4826/19316-red-intro
Green is here: http://deckstats.net/decks/4826/19317-green-intro

In testing, I found white and red to be the strongest decks of the bunch by a fair margin, and blue and green to be the weakest.  But, I don't know how a completely new player will use those decks, so I'm hoping that no matter which deck they choose, I can choose another that will make the resulting game both fun and informative.  Let me know if there are any commons, uncommons or cheap rares from recent sets that I can get to put in these decks.

Hi, here my suggestions:

White: try to add another Serra Avatar to have more possibilities to get her. Exist many cheap new cards that add life, like: Pride Guardian, Timely Reinforcements and Healer of the Pride.

Blue: add at least Cancel, so the player can experience what a counter is.

Black: You have many vanilla creatures (creatures with no abilityes, like Walking Corpse), if you whant to teach a newbie is better to replace them with core set card that explains different abilities, like: Vampire Nighthawk, Knight of Infamy, Duty-Bound Dead. Etcetera, this apply for all decks.

Red: I think some newbies can have problems to understand Tyrant of Discord ability.

Green: You can add some cheap mana generator like Llanowar Elves.

Went ahead and updated the five decks.  Some (like the white one) didn't change all that much, while others (like the blue or black) changed quite a bit.  I tested them against each other, and they seem pretty balanced.  On top of that, they also seem to be pretty fun to play with and against, so I'm pretty satisfied right now with how they turned out.
