Mini Magic format
« on: March 05, 2024, 06:00:52 pm »
First created over 5 years ago, Mini Magic is a constructed eternal formal that has recently received an overhaul to it's ruleset and B&R list. What makes Mini Magic different?

Decklist
  • Exactly 20 cards in the mainboard (can go over 20 after sideboarding).
  • Up to 10 cards in the sideboard.
  • Up to 2 of each fully legal nonbasic card per decklist.
  • List of restricted cards and additional banned cards can be found via the decklist below. The Vintage banlist also applies, NOT the restricted list.
  • https://deckstats.net/decks/78230/1400708-mini-magic-banned-restricted-l (Sideboard and Maybeboard are used for informational purposes and do not affect card legality.)

Game Start
  • 15 starting life total.
  • 5 card starting hand (max hand size is still 7).

Empty Library
When you attempt to draw a card from an empty library, you do not lose the game. Instead you lose 1 life whenever a card is unable to be moved from your library to another zone.
  • 104.3c becomes "If a player is required to draw more cards than are left in their library, they draw the remaining cards and lose life equal to the amount of cards unable to be drawn. This loss of life cannot be prevented or replaced."
  • 121.4 becomes "A player who attempts to draw a card from a library with no cards in it loses 1 life the next time a player would receive priority. This loss of life cannot be prevented or replaced."
  • 704.5b becomes "If a player attempted to draw a card from a library with no cards in it since the last time state-based actions were checked, that player loses 1 life. This loss of life cannot be prevented or replaced."
  • In addition to draw out changes, similar rules are applied to cards moving from the library to other zones. "If a player is required to move a number of cards greater than the number of cards left in their library to another zone of play, they move what is possible and lose life equal to the difference. This loss of life cannot be prevented or replaced."

There is also a tournament series being held this month with a championship on April 7th. Theres hundreds of dollars in paper MTG cards being offered as prizes, with a grand prize masterpiece Trinisphere awarded to the winner of the championship. Matches will be played on Cockatrice so the barrier for entry is very low. Check the link below for details.
