Tom Bombadil (EDH / Commander)

Strategy

The goal of this deck is to abuse the ability to repeat a saga's chapter ability every turn. This is accomplished via cards that can repeatably remove lore counters from sagas.

Examples of things you can do with chapter abilities include

• drawing extra cards every turn
• removing permanents every turn
• creating creature tokens every turn
• ramping lands every turn
• destroying all creatures every turn

Once you get a saga engine set up, it will provide repeated value every turn, often without further mana investment.

Mana Base Notes

• Some of the dual lands are in the sideboard! Currently this means no [[Badlands]] and no [[Volcanic Island]].
• The triome selection includes all the green ones because of the many ways to fetch forests ([[Nature's Lore]], [[Three Visits]], [[Skyshroud Claim]], [[Binding the Old Gods]], and [[Utopia Sprawl]]).
• There are currently 2 basic lands, [[Forest]] and [[Plains]] because there are cards in the deck that fetch those land types.
• [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]] and [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]] help fetch lands tap for mana when you don't want to fetch. This can help with mitigating life loss and also with waiting for a chance to cast [[Brought Back]] on 2 lands.

Specific Card Notes

• [[Nesting Grounds]] is very good because it can manipulate sagas in both directions. You can keep one saga locked on a chapter of your choice whlie also turboing through other sagas.
• [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]] helps fix mana and also supports [[Utopia Sprawl]] slightly.
• [[Urza's Saga]] can fetch ramp, but it can also fetch [[Hex Parasite]] which is an important synergy piece.
• [[Flicker of Fate]] is a versatile card that can reset a saga, repeat chapter 1 of a saga, and/or protect a saga from removal. It can also target other things too.
• [[Academy Rector]] is just a card that deters opponents from attacking because they are worried about what you will search for. Actually searching is not the goal here, but if you have to, you can just grab whatever you need or just some high mana value saga.
• [[Brought Back]] is a great card in any deck that plays a lot of fetch lands. Of course it also gets back sagas after they complete themselves, and it also protects against removal.
• [[The Flux]] has a lot of chapters, meaning it can single-handedly turn on [[Tom Bombadil]]'s protection ability.
• [[Quantum Misalignment]] seems cool for copying [[Tom Bombadil]] and getting triple sagas when a saga finishes.
• [[Archdruid's Charm]] is great because it can fetch [[Nesting Grounds]], which is a very good card in this deck. It can also fetch [[Serra's Sanctum]] for lots of mana.

Especially Notable Loopable Saga Chapters

• [[One Ring to Rule Them All]] chapter 2: you can destroy mostly everything every turn and lock your opponents out of playing creatures.
• [[Phyrexian Scriptures]] chapter 2: [[Tom Bombadil]] will likely have indestructible, so he is safe and you can turn one other creature into an artifact with chapter 1. Then it becomes devastating to board wipe every turn.
• [[The Akroan War]] chapter 1, [[Scroll of Isildur]] chapter 1, and [[The Horus Heresy]] chapter 1: if you keep resetting the counter, then you can keep your opponents' permanents forever.
• [[The Flux]] chapter 6: buncha mana
• [[There and Back Again]] chapter 3: BUNCHA MANA! (if you keep on creating Smaug, you keep on sacrificing it to the legend rule).
• [[Birth of the Imperium]] all of them.

Other Notes

• There are a few mass reanimation spells for sagas, which can be really cool. Once you are reanimating 10+ sagas at once, it becomes almost impossible to track all the triggers and it's really a lot of fun.
• I'm not really sure specifically how to win with this deck, but it's a blast to play because you get to move dice around everywhere.

Exclusions

• I try to fit [[Strip Mine]] into every deck, but I just didn't feel like this one could support it.
• [[The Restoration of Eiganjo]] is sweet, but it only finds basic Plains cards, and that's just not going to work in this deck.
