Sultai Midrange (Golgari):
Win by removing threats and protecting Niv or Drake.
Sideboard:
-2 Negate, -2 Fiery Cannonade, -2 Expansion // Explosion, -1 Ral, Izzet Viceroy, -1 Search for Azcanta, -1 Moment of Craving (On play -1 Moment of Craving, On draw -1 Search for Azcanta)
+2 Cast Down, +2 Dire Fleet Poisoner, +2 Discovery // Dispersal, +2 Dive Down, +1 Unmoored Ego, +1 Mass Manipulation
Important Cards:
Dive Down (Vivien Reid, Ravenous Chupacabra)
Lava Coil, Cast Down, Dire fleet Poisoner (Wildgrowth Walker, Jadelight Ranger)
Thought Erasure (Vivien Reid, Ravenous Chupacabra, Carnage Tyrant, Hydroid Krasis)
Unmoored Ego (Carnage Tyrant > Vivien Reid/Hydroid Krasis)
Dire Fleet Poisoner, Discovery // Dispersal (Carnage Tyrant)
Control (Esper, Jeskai, Azorius, Grixis)
Win by playing patient, countering key threats, playing hand disruption, before protecting a Niv, Ral or drake.
Sideboard:
-2 Fiery Cannonade, -2 Moment of Craving, -2 Lava Coil
+2 Dive Down, +2 Syncopate, +1 Ral, Izzet Viceroy, +1 Unmoored Ego
Consider swapping 2 Fiery Cannonade for 1 Unmoored Ego, 1 Dive Down/1 Syncopate post-board if you think your opponent will board in Thief of Sanity, Hero of Precinct One or Legion Warboss.
Important Cards:
All of them, Control vs Control is a game of attrition. Cannot waste resources when it's unnecessary to do so.
Unmoored Ego (Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, Lyra Dawnbringer, Nezahal, Primal Tide, Niv-Mizzet Parun, Nicol Bolas)
Fiery Cannonade (Thief of Sanity, Legion Warboss, Hero of Precinct One)
White Aggro (Azorius, Boros)
Win by aggressively controlling the board until a Niv or drake can be resolved and protected.
Sideboard:
-1 Ral, Izzet Viceroy, -2 The Eldest Reborn, -1 Expansion // Explosion, -2 Search for Azcanta
+2 Cry of the Carnarium, +2 Cast Down, +2 Dire Fleet Poisoner
Against Azorius Aggro, -2 Negate, +2 Dive Down
Against Boro Aggro, leave in the negates
Important Cards:
Fiery Cannonade, Cry of the Carnarium
Lava Coil, Cast Down, Moment of Craving, Vraska's Contempt
Crackling Drake, Niv-Mizzet Parun
Other Notes:
Dive Down > Negate against uW because we can power through History of Benalia easily enough, and Dive down works against Deputy of Detention and Conclave Tribunal
Negate > Dive Down against rW because Niv already dodges Lava Coil.
Red Aggro
Win by aggressively controlling the board until a Niv or drake can be resolved.
Sideboard:
-1 Ral, Izzet Viceroy, -2 The Eldest Reborn, -1 Expansion // Explosion, -2 Search for Azcanta
+2 Cry of the Carnarium, +2 Cast Down, +2 Dire Fleet Poisoner
Important Cards:
Fiery Cannonade, Cry of the Carnarium
Lava Coil, Cast Down, Moment of Craving, Vraska's Contempt
Crackling Drake, Niv-Mizzet Parun
Negate, Ionize (Light up the Stage, Experimental Frenzy, Skewer the Critics, Wizard's Lightning)
Other Notes:
Be aware that Fiery Cannonade misses against Fanatical Firebrand. Occasionally because Fiery Cannonade is played so lightly, you can get your opponent to sac their Fanatical Firebrand in response.
Blue Aggro
Win by aggressively controlling the board until a Niv or drake can be resolved.
Sideboard:
-1 Ral, Izzet Viceroy, -2 The Eldest Reborn, -1 Expansion // Explosion, -2 Search for Azcanta
+2 Cry of the Carnarium, +2 Cast Down, +2 Syncopate
Important Cards:
Fiery Cannonade, Cry of the Carnarium
Lava Coil, Cast Down, Moment of Craving, Vraska's Contempt
Crackling Drake, Niv-Mizzet Parun
Other Notes:
This is by far our worst match-up. We usually lose Game 1 and have to focus on winning Game 2 and 3
Be aware that Fiery Cannonade misses against Diren Stormtamer and Warkite Marauder.
Reclamation (Bant Nexus, Temur)
Win by playing patient, countering key threats, playing hand disruption, before protecting a Niv, Ral or drake.
Sideboard:
-2 Fiery Cannonade, -2 Moment of Craving, -2 Lava Coil
+1 Dive Down, +2 Syncopate, +1 Ral, Izzet Viceroy, +2 Unmoored Ego
Important Cards:
Unmoored Ego (Nexus of Fate > Wilderness Reclamation > Explosion // Expansion)
Thought Erasure (Wilderness Reclamation)
Other Notes:
I find we are generally favored against the Nexus varieties while unfavored against the Temur varieties.
Cant usually tempo them out so it's best to play slow and counter key targets (wilderness reclamation, nexus of fate).
After Turn 4, never tap out. Always hold up counter magic if possible.
Be very wary of going into T4 and always have counter magic. We need to stop the wilderness reclamation before it resolves. If we stop wilderness reclamation from hitting the table, we win the game 90% of the time.
Gates (Nexus, Standard)
Win by playing patient, removing threats fast, before protecting a Ral. Often times these decks have a hard time dealing with PWs because they rely so heavily on Gates Ablaze, so if we can clear the board and resolve a Ral while aggresively removing their creatures, we can ult Ral.
Sideboard:
-2 Fiery Cannonade, -2 Moment of Craving, -2 Lava Coil
+2 Cast Down, +2 Dire Fleet Poisoner, +1 Ral, Izzet Viceroy, +1 Unmoored Ego
Important Cards:
Cast Down (can hit any of their creatures)
Unmoored Ego (Nexus of Fate/Hydroid Krasis/Gate Colossus)
(Will finish the others later)
Hero Midrange (Esper)
Izzet Drakes
