a pretty filthy aggro WG deck. the draft made it really clear that nobody wanted white cards; i got a p3 knight, a pick 7 citizens arrest, the cavalier wheeled at 9, got passed king darien p2, it was just all there! the kind of draft where you feel like you'd better 3-0.
round 1 vs 4c slow stuff. they got run over pretty quickly in both games we played. g1 nothing really serious until a mythic sphinx, but it was too late for that to help. g2 missing land 3 didn't work for them, and knights and company beat them down.
round 2 vs boros aggro, a very odd matchup. they stalled on 2 plains, and anointed peacekeeper showed me a hand with red cards and a white 3 drop, which became a 5 drop. peacekeeper and friends finished them off. g2 was me on 3 lands vs them on all mountains, but a dragon whelp threatened to do the job itself. a key turn involved me playing take up the shield + unkicked strength of the coalition for the lifegain boost, which was enough to outlast the dragon and win the match.
round 3 vs 5c domain. i rolled them game one on a slow start from them and was feeling good, but g2 had a quick nishoba who used some tail swipes to control my board. i played a lot of dorks and so did they - an outrider, a couple 2/3 fliers (why?). they attacked and the nishoba had done enough damage that i had to trade a bunch, and bortuk bonerattle got back the nishoba and all my dudes soon traded/chumped. a flood of citizens arrests later stabilized for a second, but a menace kavu meant i couldn't find 2 blockers in time.
g3 was a beauty. i kept a land heavy hand with resolute reinforcements and juniper order rootweaver. i draw queen allenal, and so the die is cast - i run out rootweaver on 2. they play guardian of new benalia on 2 (ugh), and i play the queen on 3. on their 3 they play nishoba and attack with guardian; no blocks from me, the queen needs bodies to stay big, and i don't want to trade for a card in their hand. nishoba is a 5/3; i play land 4 and an unkicked rootweaver to make the queen a 3/3, hoping to eat a nishoba with the flash reinforcements to pump my queen. they don't take the bait, and so i flash in anyways to clock them for 6. they play a deathtouch gardener and crew the guardian with nishoba, scrying and cracking in for millions. but little did they know, last turn i drew strength of the coalition and i'm just praying for no tail swipe, because i have 2 rootweavers and 3 1/1s, and they will block the queen, and with strength that is exactly the 14 i needed to KO them. and there was no tail swipe, and that's gg.
felt great on that one. nice 3-0.
