-THE OVERALL-

The goal of this deck is to create tokens and use them, or other non-token creatures, as sac fodder to help the sacrifice synergies. I didn't put cards like wound reflection or the Sanguine Bond Exquisite Blood combo because I wanted this deck to not only be a viable budget list but to also not just delete someone from the game or suddenly win. Those cards along with some of the more pricier black cards like tutors, damnation, cabal coffers/Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and a bunch of the expensive staples that black decks love to run would make the deck much more competitive and you can add them to meet your playgroups power level. If you would like a more in-depth analysis along with what I think of Torgaar then continue to read.

-TORGAAR-

Once I saw the spoiler for Torgaar I thought to myself "huh that's cool, kinda underwhelming but cool" the reason I thought this was because he's a commander that has a built-in sac-outlet, which is always great in a mono-black commander, but it's not as good as a commander like Yahenni who can sacrifice as much as he wants or one like Ghoulcaller Gisa who gets value just by sacking a creature without needing anything else on board. But then I kept thinking back to Torgaar, until I saw Muldrotha and all my Sultai dreams came true then I went back to Torgaar, and I noticed a few key things I missed my first time around 1. He can get rid of his own commander tax 2. He sets people's life total to half their ORIGINAL which in commander means he always sets the life to 20, so he can actually hurt life gain decks and 3. He can target you, this is mostly a way for you to gain back some life in a pinch. So after working with Torgaar for quite a bit I am able to come to the conclusion that.................. he's alright, not amazing not bad, I think the best way of describing Torgaar is the he's unique and that he leads to unique builds that mostly focus on a burst of sacking instead of a grindy slow type of sacking. If I had to give him a rating on how much I enjoy building and playing him it would be an 8/10 but if I'm rating on how GOOD he is he'd be a 6/10 he's good and does his job but for being competitive other commanders do it better.

-GAMEPLAN-

Like I stated in the overview your goal should use tokens or sacrifice fodder to gain value, but there is a bit more nuance to it than just playing as a mono-black sacrifice value deck. First let's go over using your commander 1. don't rush him out unless you have a good reason to, people are going to be scared of the 7/6 Avatar that can hit them for 20 in the early game and that could possibly come out turn 3 use that fear to your advantage and don't waste it you can also use him for some good karma late game by healing an opponent late game for a favor or two. 2. you only need 3 direct hits on someone with Torgaar to take them out this is really common knowledge with commanders that have 7-10 power but it's still important that you remember that you can kill someone fairly easily. 3. Torgaar is not a consistent sack outlet, he sacrifices in bursts starting at normally 3 and each time he dies increasing by 1 this also means that most of the time he only costs 2 black mana. Now that you know the key parts of using Togaar the rest is fairly simple. set up situations where playing Torgaar is really good and leverage those situations against your opponents.

-CARDS I DIDN'T INCLUDE-
This section is pretty clear as I tried to keep it so cards over 10$ weren't included, I did this to keep the deck affordable as this commander is one I'm sure people would love to test and is a pretty good intro into mono-black. Anything else I already talked about in the overview.

-END STEP-
If you have any questions, comments, or recommendations feel free to message or email me, I'm always looking to improve and bring light to unpopular commanders and the best way to do that is to learn from other's experiences.
