This deck attempts to win by ramping and multiplying mana for quick Niv-Mizzets that leave mana open, or for gargantuan Explosions during your end step.
For this build, the plan is to cut out the exorbitant price of most manabases. The theory is that although guildgates are a bit slower than shocks and checks, they also provide enough benefit for them to be considered even in decks where they aren't your win condition. In particular, as this deck plays a bit like a control/combo deck, the slower guildgates may be less of a drawback than they would be for most decks.
The benefits of guildgates include more consistent colored mana through Gateway Plaza, lifegain from Plaza of Harmony, access to an incredibly powerful board wipe outside of white through Gates Ablaze, an additional ramp spell in the form of Circuitous Route, and of course the potent Guild Summit draw engine.
