Atla Palani, Master Chef

a horrid continental breakfast amalgamation composed of several combo lines

Ever heard of Breakfast Hulk? Well, we're expanding on that concept and serving up my own personal combo brew, complete with Reveillark + Karmic Guide combo lines, Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre + Mirror Entity + Atla Palani, Nest Tender graveyard loops, and... a ton of shapeshifters?

The general game plan is to get Atla Palani + any sac outlet in play, and sacrifice an egg. Hence the shapeshifters~they're all eggs, so why not eat them? From there, things get pretty crazy. Atla will pull out another creature, and in this deck, most of our creatures are eggs; meaning we can sac that creature and continue until we get something that isn't an egg.

What If It's Not An Egg?

Good question. There are 5 creatures in this deck that aren't eggs, not including Atla. I'll go over each of them below:

  • Gamekeeper isn't an egg, but has basically the same effect when dying that an egg does, meaning you can continue the sac loop. In this deck, it can also be used to dump cards in your graveyard, allowing us to Regrowth them.
  • Protean Hulk isn't an egg~he's a whole carton! When sacrificed, you can pull specific creatures out of your deck; usually, you'll want to pull any Egg + one of the two creatures below. After sacrificing the egg, you can continue the sac loop.
  • Reveillark is a combo piece; it goes infinite with the next creature. When sacrificed, you can return 2 of the eggs from your graveyard to the battlefield, allowing you to continue the loop.
  • Karmic Guide goes infinite with Reveillark and any sac outlet, allowing for infinite sacs/death triggers; since you can get 2 creatures off of every Reveillark trigger, you can actually get infinite ETBs off of any of the <2 power creatures in your graveyard. The main targets we care about for this are Irregular Cohort, Guardian Gladewalker, Roc Egg, and Dragon Egg, which can get us infinite tokens or +1/+1 counters depending on what you choose.
  • Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre is a strange-looking egg that helps you restock on your other eggs. If you're feeling strong, there's a not-very-intuitive combo with Ulamog + Mirror Entity where you activate Mirror Entity's ability ~a billion times for 0 mana and let the first trigger resolve, killing the Mirror Entity and activating Atla. For this to work, you want a +1/+1 counter on Atla so she won't die, which you can get from Guardian Gladewalker. In response to the massive stack of Mirror Entity triggers, you continue to sac things as normal until you pull out Ulamog. Then, let one of the triggers resolve, killing Ulamog and turning him into an egg; then, your graveyard will shuffle into your library, and the Atla trigger will resolve after, pulling out another egg and continuing the loop.

Can We Run Out Of Eggs?

Technically, we can run out of eggs, if Ulamog eats them all before we get there. If Ulamog is pulled out of the deck before Mirror Entity, Reveillark, or one of our other things which gives us multiple eggs, then we won't be able to continue the loop. Or, if we pull Reveillark or Karmic Guide before we get any valid eggs to reanimate in our graveyard, we can fizzle that way too. These are very unlikely cases, but are all technically possible. As long as that doesn't happen, we have a deterministic infinite combo the moment we sac an egg with Atla and any sac outlet on the battlefield. This combo is very resilient, as long as we don't run into well-timed graveyard hate; this deck could definitely be built at a CEDH power level by anyone with enough dedication. I haven't seen another Atla Palani deck featuring both of these combo lines, but when I realized you could fit them both in without them running over each other I knew I wanted to build it.

Please comment with any suggestions, I'd like to see how else the combo lines could be tuned. Thanks!
