Credit to Sundiray on mtggoldfish and reddit. The bulk of the card choices come from their suggestions (and that of other redditors), although a Zombie tribal deck tends to build itself up to a certain point (you want lords, token makers, etc.)
There are three games plans:
Getting access to white in zombie tribal deck feels really good. Artifact and enchantment removal gets a lot easier with Austere Command and Anguished Unmaking. Utter End and/or Vindicate are also considerations. Also present here are Swords to Plowshares, Wayward Servant, and Binding Mummy. While I don't need to tell you that Land Tax is a very strong card, it allows you to discard extra basics to Varina's triggered ability to keep other cards when you have enough lands already. And filling the graveyard naturally synergizes with her activated ability.
Enlightened tutor is present because of several useful enchantments. Tutoring up the aforementioned Zombie Storm helps assemble the combo if that's the last piece, and Anointed Procession really facilitates the token plan.
Reconnaissance is a great synergy with Varina. It allows you to attack with impunity with any and all creatures, triggering Varina's ability even if they become blocked. If any creatures become blocked by a bigger creature, they can be removed from combat and saved. If unblocked, they can deal damage and then be untapped and "removed from combat" in the end of combat step. It's an incredible deal for one white mana and it might result from being printed at a time when the end of combat step wasn't a thing. Either that or there was a templating error (the reminder text appears to contradict how the card actually works today).
Finally, a shout out to my pet card, Archfiend of Ifnir. I really wanted to make this card work in a Standard cycling deck, but was never able to pull off the dream of a one-sided wrath. Here, however, discarding a lot of cards to Varina with Archfiend on the battlefield should get very close to that.
