Lately I've been playing my Grismold deck and as much as I like it, I can't stop thinking how boring it is the more I play it. Create tokens, play a -1/-1 enchantment and smash.
I wanted to play a Troll and have fun!
Then I realized, my playgroup is trying to make custom commanders for weak tribals, so why don't go with Trolls? And man, this has been really difficult... finding a mechanic to work with most Trolls and specially, solving how regenerates work to play around that.
Let me explain what "is regenerated" means. A creature regenerates when you activate an ability or cast a spell to regenerate it. But a creature is regenerated when that regeneration shield prevents the creature from being destroyed, removes all damage on it and taps it. So Dungrel's second ability only happens when the creature was actually going to be destroyed but regeneration prevented it.
With that explained there's nothing much to say about the deck:
1 - Play Trolls
2 - Capitalize on putting a +1/+1 counter EACH TURN.
3 - Don't run boardwipes like Damnation.
4 - Leave Mana open to regenerate your trolls.
5 - Smash.
