Viewing revision 50. There is a more recent version of this deck.
This deck’s history has seen a few versions (and commanders) over the years, switching between Yurlok and Xira depending on how nostalgic I feel. At one point it revolved around old school mana burn / Manabarbs / Powersurge, and it was quite fine.
The Xira Arien version was a convoluted draw engine, to repeatedly untap and/or bounce Xira to force opponents to draw their entire deck(s). This quirky path required a lot of pieces and still needed infinite mana. Usually the simplest route just resulted in targeting myself until I drew one of the mana sink wincons for the same result.
When I revisited the deck in 2023, Yurlok returned as the most productive way to win with Big Mana. The nature of the deck is an infinite mana combo; denying that fact was kidding myself. Putting a combo component in the CZ was the logical solution to shorten the mid game. Plus, Yurlok is obscure enough to catch people off guard, and he shouldn’t draw hate until the engine appears.
Step one will be Ramping up. Play as much cheap mana to get Yurlok out ASAP. (Realistically though, turn 3 is the earliest outside of a freak opening hand.) Feel free to cast Mana Flare effects. The more the better, and I wouldn’t worry about sharing mana with opponents. High risk is high reward, and this deck is well-suited to capitalize on the mana.
Draw recklessly to find the other half of the untap engine and/or mana sink(s). These are the win conditions. I utilize many "Looting" effects here, as I don't really care about discarding non-combo components. Besides, the deck also runs a robust Worldgorger Dagon package. Discarding Worldgorger will alert the table something may be afoot, as one single reanimation spell could not only make infinite mana, but result in infinite life (Radiant Fountain!) or Instant Death (Piranha Marsh!)
