Genie: "I am an all powerful Genie who is able to grant you three wishes."
Me: "My first wish is for more wishes!"
Genie: "You cannot have more wishes, those are the rules."
Me: "OK then, I want more Genies!"
While building this deck I discovered a wealth of trivia about Djinn-lore. Efreet are actually a subset of Djinn, as are Marids too. In some cultures Djinn are represented as demons or evil spirits. Not all Djinn are Genies (which honestly is just an Anglicanized version of the wish-granting fantasy we see from Disney.). Some Djinns are friendly, and others mean and malevolent. However they all have some type of mystical power, and make a great obscure tribe to build around.
My playgroup has provisionally given me permission to cast wishes for this deck. The theme is, if you were granted wishes from a djinn, you wouldn't likely be asking for cheap utility spells that you see everyday. You'd be wishing for "phenomenal cosmic power" right? So therefore, my wish-board (Sideboard) is be comprised of crazy powerful cards that do it all, rather than ho-hum boring staple. I filled it with amazing, overpowered, and somewhat chaotic choices that might win the game on the spot, or cause some unexpected consequence if you word the wish poorly.
Then there is the Maybeboard... After long discussion, my playgroup has acknowledge that the Wish Deck is already breaking the published rules for Commander, so why not go all-in? The Un-sets don't see play often in my area, so here is my chance to feature truly insane magic cards that really break the rules of the game. (We're not talking Chicken Tribal or Denimwalk. Remember this is supposed to be PHENOMENAL Cosmic Power.)
I tried to go all-in on the Djinn theme. For removal, I feature crazy transformation effects rather than traditional. Genie (from Aladdin) transformed Abu into an elephant for much of the movie, so I am using spells like Pongify and Gift of Tusks to represent a more whimsical form of control.
Dealing with Genies can be tricky, and often take the wording of your wishes literally. Watch for unexpected side effects, and "be careful what you wish for".
