Lathliss EDH (EDH / Commander) [Revision 22]

A mono-red dragons EDH deck for battlecruiser-y games. Not meant to be cutthroat competitive, but to take mono-red dragons as far as it can go. As an aside, I've actively chosen to make this a permanent heavy deck opposed to an instant-speed interaction-heavy deck. It may be stronger with Vandalblast, but then I'd have fewer dragons. Obviously that's a worse option.

We want to run a pile of dragons to make Lathliss as potent as possible, and because dragons. This means the rest of the deck has limited slots available, so card density is important.

The ramp package is optimized for three purposes:
First, I love Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle as a card, so cards that put mountains into play are a must. This also includes Myriad Landscape, Isolated Watchtower, and Scrying Sheets.
Second, ramp that also acts as a draw engine of any sort. This is your The Immortal Sun, Coveted Jewel, Herald's Horn, Hazoret's Monument, Dragon's Hoard, Sarkhan Fireblood, etc.
Third, our average CMC is almost 5, so we need BIG ramp. If it only gives 50% return on investment in a best-case scenario, it's not worth a slot. Further, Lathliss plays VERY well as a Dragonstorm deck, so straight cost reduction is the main priority. Ruby Medallion is 2 mana ramp if you play 2 dragons in a turn, afterall.

Our win condition is damage. This is facilitated by almost all of our creatures naturally having avoidance and running multiple haste enablers. However, we're running Warstorm Surge and Where Ancients Tread (with Scourge of Valkas and Dragon Tempest) to allow for direct damage as a result of casting dragons, and Panharmonicon and Dictate of the Twin Gods to allow for multiplicative effects. With these things in mind, dragons with the following attributes are important:

First, draw, ramp, and non-creature removal. These double-dip roles, and so are high priority.
Second, token generation. Any dragon that makes multiple tokens is a priority. Skyline Despot, Utvara Hellkite, etc are incredible here.
Third, damage doublers. There are two dragons that provide multiple combat steps, and we're running both. Additionally, Terror of Mount Velus provides protection while swinging in and can double damage for combat.
Fourth, direct damage. Dragons that don't need to attack to push damage are a priority, such as Spawn of Thraxes or Bogardan Hellkite.

Cards that provide interesting combat minigames, notably Throne of the High City and Coveted Jewel, are also included because they're quite fun. Our deck does not have problems dealing with creatures or getting an attack in to reclaim these draw engines.
