Major Revision
Rev.11: Faithless Looting Ban
Rev.16: Once Upon a Time Ban
Rev.21: Battle of One Drops (see below)
Enablers
Insolent Neonate / Merchant of the Vale // Haggle: The primary discard engine for Vengevine.
Gather the Pack / Commune with the Gods: This is the primary T2 play, helps mill Vengevine and provide cards for Delve, both cards can be cast off a BTE/Herbalist ETB trigger.
Payoffs
Vengevine: A 4/3 hasty recurring vegetable. It's super easy to trigger with the low CMC creature package specially with BTE.
Reckless Bushwhacker: The surprise card in the deck that can turn around games. Take note that triggered Vengevine through a Surged Reckless Bushwhacker also gets buffed.
Hooting Mandrills (Ragavan): A one-drop 4/4 trample, it doesn't look impressive but combined with a Bushwhacker we can have a T3 Hooting Mandrills + Surge Bushwacker + Trigger Vengevine threatening for 12 dmg.
Sample Gameplay
T2: BTE > Surge Bushwhacker > Trigger Vengevine (10-power)
T2: Fetch Land > Hidden Herbalist > BTE > Surge Bushwhacker (8-power, just like a traditional 8whack)
T3: Hooting Mandrills > Surge Bushwhacker > Trigger Vengevine > (12-power)
T2: BTE > Gather the Pack > Stonecoil Serpent for 0 > Trigger Vengevine
Note: Consistency suffers a lot after the ban of Faithless Looting and Once Upon a Time.
Battle of 1-Drops
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer (Hooting Mandrills):
(+) Good T1 creature. (must answer threat thus delay opp's game progress)
(+) Provides Ramp. On the play, 1-Lander + Ragavan is a keep. Treasure token for Revolt trigger.
(+) Dash: for Haste. Extra red card for Fury evoke. Extra card for discard Neonate/Haggle. Helps ensure there's an extra 1-Creature in hand ready for Vengevine trigger next turn.
(+) Card exiled from Ragavan is a bonus.
(-) Small body, hard to push for damage as the game goes on.
(-) The exiled card is seldomly played. Normally occur in T2 in which there's a high probability to hit a land, it's hard to push another damage from Ragavan past this point.
(-) Legendary.
Dragon's Rage Channeler (Stonecoil Serpent):
(+) Good T1 creature that can attack for 3-dmg as early as T2 with Gather the Pack/Commune with the Gods.
(+) Filtering is relevant throughout the game.
(+) Evasive.
(-) Non-bo with Hooting Mandrill's Delve.
Tested Cards:
Stonecoil Serpent - Bad against Archmage's Charm and CMC removal (Fatal Push / Prismatic Ending)
