After playtesting my original Lurrus brew a few times, I've made some changes and streamlined things a little. I still believe he's a viable, interesting and fun choice of commander for casual and focused playgroups.
This Lurrus of the Dream-Den list aims to grind out additional value from a toolbox of 1- and 2-drop permanents by recurring them as required to control the board and gain advantage. Efficient and repeatable self-mill provides us with almost as much card advantage as straight draw, and some cards in this list are altogether more useful to us when in the yard than in the hand.
The deck can win in one of four ways: recurring big threats, combo-ing off, life-drain and surprise Lurrus commander damage with Blackblade Reforged. A notable synergy which has led to a surprise victory out of nowhere is either Lurrus + Blackblade Reforged or Gray Merchant of Asphodel + Vizkopa Guildmage.
Below is a list of the primary infinite combos in this deck. (1) infinite Sun Titan recurson, (2) infinite Reveillark + Karmic guide recursion, (3) Infinite Lurrus of the Dream-Den Recursion, (4) Leonin Relic-Warder infinite death triggers. In each of these combos, Altar of Dementia or an alternative sack outlet plus a "blood artist" effect is required as payoff.
1a) Sun Titan + Kaya's Ghostform / Angelic Renewal + Altar of Dementia = infinite mill.
1b) Sun Titan + Kaya's Ghostform / Angelic Renewal + Viscera Seer / Carrion Feeder + Zulaport Cutthroat / Blood Artist / Syr Konrad the Grim = infinite drain.
2a) Reveillark + Karmic Guide + Altar of Dementia = infinite mill.
2b) Reveillark + Karmic Guide + Viscera Seer / Carrion Feeder + Zulaport Cutthroat / Blood Artist / Syr Konrad the Grim = infinite drain.
3a) Lurrus of the Dream-Den + Kaya's Ghostform + Pitiless Plunderer + Altar of Dementia = infinite mill.
3b) Lurrus of the Dream-Den + Angelic Renewal + Gravebreaker Lamia + Pitiless Plunderer + Altar of Dementia = infinite mill.
3c) Lurrus of the Dream-Den + Kaya's Ghostform + Pitiless Plunderer + Viscera Seer / Carrion Feeder + Zulaport Cutthroat / Blood Artist / Syr Konrad the Grim = infinite drain.
3d) Lurrus of the Dream-Den + Angelic Renewal + Gravebreaker Lamia + Pitiless Plunderer + Viscera Seer / Carrion Feeder + Zulaport Cutthroat / Blood Artist / Syr Konrad the Grim = infinite drain.
4a) Animate Dead / Dance of the Dead + Leonin Relic Warder + Zulaport Cuttrhoat / Blood Artist / Syr Konrad the Grim = infinite death triggers, infinite drain.
4b) Animate Dead / Dance of the Dead + Leonin Relic Warder + Altar of Dementia = infinite mill.
I'll briefly discuss the deck's two main shortcomings and how I've tried to get around them.
Firstly, if someone exiles the yard or you don't hit the right cards, the list can sometimes struggle on card draw. For this reason, wherever possible, I'll do my best to reanimate Vilis, Broker of Blood. Once he hits the board (and especially if Doom Whisperer is out too) you won't really be struggling for cards. An early final parting nets Vilis and Animate Dead more often than not, and I'll often dump him in the yard with Gravebreaker Lamia or Buried Alive. If only I had a copy Entomb...
Secondly, it can be a little slow off the ground if you don't get some decent early self-mill or any nice synergies. To try and help survive any early aggression, there's a fairly rounded lifegain package in the list. Blind Obedience pulls double duty here, as it slows down any hasty threats or artifact-based ramp the opponents may have. Kami of False Hope would be another option here, though I don't run it personally.
Sure, this probably isn't the most efficient take on Lurrus, and even then Lurrus definitely isn't the most effective recursion-based commander in these colours. If you want something a bit more competitive, then Athreos or Tesya (or expanding into Abzhan with Karador or Nethroi) might be a better option for you. But, if you're looking for an Orzhov graveyard commander that isn't DeathTriggers.deck (hello Teysa Karlov!), then I'd definitely recommend Lurrus.
