I really like Atris' overall design, and I think he's the perfect commander for a graveyard toolbox deck. I built a brawl deck for him on Magic Arena, and I based this list off of that.

The overall strategy is to load up each player's graveyard, opponents' through mill and our own through Draw + Discard effects. Then we use reanimation/recursion to get back the best cards available from each pile, with some cheap counterspells to ensure our reanimation spells resolve.

With Atris' ETB effect, it doesn't matter much what ends up in our graveyard or in our hand, because you have ways to take advantage of it either way.

NOTES:
-I intentionally avoided tutors of any kind. This was both due to preference and budget. Feel free to add some in for more consistency and/or if you can afford them. Entomb, Buried Alive, Final Parting for the graveyard, and Enlightened Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor for specific cards.

  • I really like modal effects, so Silumgar's Command, Dimir Charm, Connive // Concoct were included because of that.
  • Custodi Lich was added to introduce Monarch to the deck. I think it's a fun multiplayer mechanic that encourages attacks in games.
-There is a possible mill out combo with Mindcrank + Syr Konrad, The Grim , but that is entirely dependent on the composition of your opponents' decks.
-The list is also made up of mostly cards that I own + cheap additions (No card over $5 that I didn't already own, based on prices at the time of brewing the deck). I put cards that didn't make the list due to these restrictions in the maybe board.
