Dante's Inferno (EDH / Commander)

A themed deck based on Dante's Inferno.

Each card aims to represent a significant character or plot point from the poem, or to somehow capture the flavour of it (for example a lot of the card draw and ramp options cause the player to lose life, punishing them for acting selfishly and looking to advance only themselves).

The deck follows the structure of the Divine Comedy's cantos. 1 introduction and respectively 33 in Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory) and Paradiso (Paradise / Heaven) are represented by 1 commander and 33 lands, 33 creatures and 33 non-creatures. Thanks to Ev3nt1ne for convincing me to make this work. I had originally decided against it (and EDH deck with 33 lands scares me) but the flavour and symmetry is just too good.

This deck is hard to win with, but that's kind of the point. Luckily Athreos is properly good, so that gives it at least a chance. If you can get someone down to two, get Athreos, Blood Pet and Field of Souls, you can make infinite spirits. Other than that, it's shit creatures and too few lands.
