This deck is meticulously crafted, and artfully brewed. Here is how I ended up with this list:

First of all, the addition of Grief to modern (in more ways than one) is exactly what Jund wants to be doing. With the help of Ephemerate, Grief becomes a triple Thoughtseize by turn 2, along with a three/two menace, and zero life loss. That's practically a Jund player's wet dream. However, this trick mainly requires Ephemerate to be good, which is in a color that Jund doesn't play. How do Jund players solve this problem? They stop playing Jund.

I know. Bold. But I think there is a valid argument behind ditching red and playing white instead. Besides the reason previously mentioned, there is also the unbanning of Stoneforge Mystic and the recent printing of Elite Spellbinder (a.k.a Paulo) to keep in mind. Did I mention Paulo works great with Ephemerate? No? Well it does. Stoneforge Mystic can be a pretty decent Ephemerate target, as well as getting us some value equipments that can occasionally equip to the Mystic or a flyer of ours to close out the game.

Another key card that was spoiled is Grist, the Hunger Tide. Not only is Grist a good planeswalker in the first place, letting us create a blocker every turn and kill a creature every other turn for just 3 mana, but he can also mill us into a Lingering Souls to flash back, another card that can only be played in Abzan and works great with Liliana. Additionally, his mill fuels our Tarmogoyf, a classic Jund card.

Well, that's all. What do you think? Will Jund players be happy playing Grist and a few copies of Grief without the white, or will red be dropped for white for the sheer value and combo potential that these new cards have to offer?

This deck appears to be legal in Modern.
