This is my take on Mono Blue Merfolk. Often mischaracterized as a full-on aggro archetype, Fish combines a beefy creature package with disruption of various kinds to fit neatly into the tempo category. The above build, inspired by the legendary MTGO grinder MHayashi, dials the disruption up to 11, playing a full 16 disruptive noncreature spells. This results in gameplay that feels more like Jund than anything else. So one might call this... Mono Blue Jund?
Aside from if I'm going to be struck down by Blightning for putting "Mono Blue" and "Jund" together in that last sentence, my current musings center on the question of whether to mainboard Chalice of the Void or Force of Negation.
I prefer fair, interactive Magic, so a build like this is my favorite way to play Modern. If you take it for a spin, find me on the Merfolk Discord as ST0NEHE4RT or on Twitter @_ST0NEHE4RT and tell me how it went!
