Korvold, Fae Cursed King Revision 9
Summary:
Built top-down as sacrifice based deck using sacrifice outlets (Greater Good, Viscera Seer, Sadistic Hypnotist, etc.) with token producers (Awakening Zone, Dreadhorde Invasion, Tendershoot Dryad, etc.) in conjunction with Korvold’s ability to draw to dig deep into your deck and have very explosive turn 4-5 plays (Gravepact, Dictate of Erebos, Sheoldred the Whispering One, etc.).
Win Conditions:
The main combo to dig for is Food Chain and Squee the Immortal which creates infinite creature mana. Afterwards, you can draw your entire library by casting Squee the Immortal, casting Korvold from the command zone, sacrificing Squee to gain a counter and draw a card. Exile Korvold to your command zone with Food Chain along with Squee and replay the loop to draw your entire library.
The secondary win condition is tutoring up the Dockside Extortionist and Temur Sabertooth loop. If Dockside Extortionist enters the battlefield and creates at least 5 treasure tokens the loop becomes infinite which creates infinite treasure tokens to draw your entire library and win with either Mayhem Devils or a large Torment of Hailfire.
The third win condition is a war of attrition where you grind out your opponents with value and sacrifice effects to eventually accrue large amounts of mana with a Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth combo which facilitates a very large Torment of Hailfire.
Disruption:
Since the deck thrives on sacrificing its permanents, token creators and sacrifice outlets in combination with edict effects like Gravepact and Dictate of Erebos makes it hard for your opponents to keep a creature on the battlefield. Mean creatures like Sheoldred the Whispering One and Sadistic Hypnotist will guarantee that your opponents will not have the resources to stop your win conditions.
Commander Damage:
Korvold is a flying 4/4 that comes in the battlefield with an extra +1/+1 counter on it. Flying makes Korvold deceptively evasive and hard to deal with especially in a playgroup meta with little to no flyers. When Korvold attacks, it triggers its permanent sacrificing ability again which gives Korvold at the very least a 4 turn clock to kill with commander damage.
Final thoughts:
The deck is very fun to play and is quite strong possibly a 7-8 out of 10. To further improve and fine tune the deck, optimizing the land base with more untapped fetches and dual lands will make the deck run smoother overall. Possibly fitting in more fast mana like Mana Crypt, Ancient Tomb, Mox Diamond etc. The deck runs very little board wipes (Living Death and Pernicious Deed) which might prove troublesome when faced with very resilient token decks. Adding more protection in the form of hexproof or shroud will help with the inevitable removal magnet in the command zone.
