After a long hiatus from MTG, I came back to the game during Origins and fell in love with the art from Touch of Moonglove. I wondered if one could make a beautiful art black deck, but that seemed really janky and not possible in regular deck building. Of course, not too far into my return, I discovered EDH! May the casual jank floweth.

Black now and then has cards with bright, beautiful, serene, or "doesn't make you puke" art. There were over 100 cards in this category from the history of Magic when I went through the whole saga, and I narrowed it down to these things with Kiku at the helm.

It turns out that many assassins in Magic are lovely women, femme fatales if you will.

It turns out there are many black cards with beautiful bright backgrounds but a rotting corpse on the front; many of those were cut but a few backgrounds were nice enough to keep around.

It turns out some cards have beautiful art in some sets, but less than inspiring art in other sets.

It turns out that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but for the most part I think my selections are pretty pleasing to the eye. Phage is colorful, alright?

This deck is intended to be part of a mono-color series of EDH decks doing things not typical of the color pie, be they opposite expectations either mechanical or flavorful. My first was mono-green fliers.
