A $50 Budget Bird tribal deck made for an event in the playgroup I'm in. Not meant to be amazing, but playable.
Basic Lands do not count towards the budget.
Because Birds aren't amazing on their own, this deck focuses a lot on Anthems, especially ones dedicated to birds/fliers, in order to make the creatures of the deck strong. Surprisingly, there is a decent amount of card draw, especially for bird-related cards and as this is a Bant deck, getting ramp cards isn't too much of a worry.
Basically the win cons are as followed:
-Defeat other players with Tine Shrike (the bird with infect). Most effective with at least a +3/+3 amount of anthems (2-hit kill). Depending on what anthems are out, Tine Shrike can definitely get above one-shot range.
-Wearing down opponents. There is a pretty decent amount of disruption in the deck, and cards that can make it difficult to be attacked. Swooping Talon is great for choosing what you want to eliminate, Soraya the Falconer is great for surprising someone, especially when defending, with Banding, Dream Thrush can mess with someone's play by changing their land into a waste. Basically the little things you can do to annoy someone can go a long way. This is by no means the best win con (if it even is one) but against other $50 decks it isn't too bad.
-Just having a lot of creatures. This deck, despite not having any token doublers, can still make a good amount of tokens. It wouldn't be very surprising to win against someone just because you have an army of 1/1s and 2/2s, all of which have flying.
-Anthems. There are a lot of anthems. Make your birds big and slap somebody until they're out. Once you have your anthems, you can always cast dovescape and watch as your friends writhe with irritation.
The only real win con is with Tine Shrike, but you can manage without just doing that. This is a $50 budget deck (at the time it was made) so there isn't anything crazy in here and I wanted to go hard with the bird theme, so there isn't exactly one (or even two) amazingly easy ways to try and win. Just have fun and try your best!
Why Derevi? Well, the only reason is because Derevi is the only Bird commander in Bant. That being said, Derevi's max commander tax will never go above 1, which is fantastic and works extremely well with Commander's Insignia. Also Derevi makes for some nice utility/disruption, depending on the situation with its ability to tap/untap.
