Runo/Krothuss (Finally a Lovecraft/Cthulhu Commander) (EDH / Commander)

"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far." -H.P. Lovecraft (The Call of Cthulhu). If you're like me and are an absolute Lovecraft fanatic, in love with the Cthulhu mythos, or find the idea of cosmic horrors beyond comprehension living beneath the waves fascinating, then you've most likely been waiting for a commander such as Runo Stromkirk to be printed for quite a while now. We got Nihiloor with the Dungeons and Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms commander set, but to me, his Cthulhu-esque flavour came at the cost of any strength whatsoever. I tried to reach once and design a Cthulhu Mythos deck around Wrexial, the Risen Deep, but his strength came at the cost of any Cthulhu-esque flavour. Finally we got Runo Stromkirk, who tranforms into Krothuss, Lord of the Deep! Despite my intrigue in making a Lovecraft/Cthulhu proxy art around them, this commander immediately caught my eye and many others as a sea monster tribal deck with mill, recursion, and control built in.

• Wrexial, the Risen Deep made his way into this deck, as well as Thing in the Ice for it's flavour and Grozoth for his Leviathan creature type and having a built in Rise of the Dark Realms tutor on him.
• The ramp package includes Basalt Monolith and Grim Monolith entirely because of Lovecraftian flavour. Other large pieces include Dreamstone Hedron and Hedron Archive as we have some MASSIVE creatures in this deck.
• Phenax, God of Deception serves as a way to mill big creatures into our graveyard to recur for cheap or to mill our opponents out as well. The Whip of Erebos is in here to recur threats to create permanent copies of them and to get some absurd, out of nowhere life gain.
• The "Servants of Nyarlathotep" column has creatures that copy our opponents' best pieces so that we can create tokens of them ourselves. I included Agent of Treachery as a great piece of card draw should everything go as planned (able to attack with it and make a few more).
