Omnath, Locus of All was my prerelease promo. Then I opened another one. I joked it was a sign to play 5 color but when I opened an Invasion of Alara // Awaken the Maelstrom and a Wrenn and Realmbreaker, it started to become a reality.
I knew that this would be one of the few opportunities to play 5 color in limited so why not, let's go for it.
I ended up cutting Invasion of Alara // Awaken the Maelstrom. There's a chance I could have played it but the front side didn't provide much value and the back side also seemed unrealistic considering I had to do 7 damage to it. At this point, this deck was really more of a 4 color deck but we can pretend it was 5.
In my very first game, I manage to cast Omnath, Locus of All on curve without paying life for the phyrexian black mana. All my basics just lined up. I managed to cast it a number of times during my games.
I didn't have any cards with three mana symbols but Omnath, Locus of All was a great card engine. I often forgot to tap and keep track of the mana that I wouldn't lose but it was rarely relevant.
In one of my games, the board stalled and I was able to ultimate Wrenn and Realmbreaker. I remember it was interesting how I could immediately replay it from the graveyard after ultimating it. It was late game so I recurred the Urn of Godfire multiple times to destroy the opponent's board but sadly I don't think I won. I may have picked the wrong card to recur. I remember thinking maybe I could have pushed in with more damage if I had recurred my fliers.
Wary Thespian was really handy, surveiling both ETB and dying. Also it worked really well with Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive.
One of opponents played a turn one Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer. I responded by playing a turn one Elspeth's Smite, exiling it. That was super satisfying.
This is also my first time realizing that convoke allows you to tap for the color of the creature. I always thought it was just colorless mana. That's insane how you can be tapped out on mana but still be able to cast other spell by means of convoke.
Furtive Analyst was also great being a chonky blocker that could also attack and could always tap to help filter for better cards.
