Sheoldred, Gisa, Sidisi and Tergrid in: goth e-girls cemetery photoshoot (soon in their OF)

By far my favourite deck. Building it was a five year long journey, experimenting with lots of cool stuff along the way. Is it the absolute best and most efficient black commander? Heck no.

First off, as a general rule I will -not- use vampires and demons or at least try to avoid it (there's one demon and he's too great a card draw engine to pass on). The deck has a mild phyrexian / horror theme that I try to adhere to as much as possible without it being janky. Also no infect. I'm talking about old-school Invasion era phyrexians here, kids. That said, I'd love to swap some creatures for something more in theme... brother's wars and phyrexia on the horizon, who knows!

The deck is a huge toolbox, has a shit ton of viable wincons: rise of the dark realms, hailfire, sheoldred herself (with urborg for instance). Not only that, but Tergrid, Gisa, the primordial can tip the scales in your favor, and gary / kokusho can also be abused.

Techs:

  • Chinese dude is an unique kind of recursion, you can get the sorceries back.
  • Fleshwrither is kinda slow but it can get a lot of value into the field. Xiahou, Obliterator, Ghast, Gisa... you name it!
  • Be patient. This deck can endure a lot of board wipes and whatnot. Don't get greedy with your cemetery (thats the reason I dumped buried alive in favor of some direct tutors)
  • Unless you absolutely have a clear wincon path, the safest bet is to use tutors to get stuff that will help you survive the long run (I usually tutor for Yawg Coffers, most of the time).
  • It that Betrays is always a bait card. No one in their right mind will let that thing sit for a turn... but if it does, then go to town with the sac crew.

Long live Phyrexia.
