WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BE NORMAL?

I've always wanted to play a vehicles deck in EDH. They dodge wraths, are big shiny bois, and make vroom sounds. But Dwarves are depressing, and that's what we got stapled to our vehicles when the first came out.

Then Brawl came out and I thought that was my chance to make vehicles shine! [Brawl could not be reached for comment]

So I set the pile aside, biding my time. I didn't know what I was waiting for, but I would know when I saw it...

PARHELION II, MY MUSE

Oh my lord, this card is too sweet not to play. But it's really expensive, so I thought about using Goblin Welder and Daretti, Scrap Savant to Trash For Treasure it into play. When I saw that my best Oathbreaker option for that package was Huatli, Warrior Poet, I kept looking.

PARHELION II, PARHELION HARDER

So I wanted to ramp out Parhelion II every game. Luckily, blue has some great artifact ramp that I had experience with from the Modern deck, Blue Steel: https://themanabase.com/modern-musings-blue-steel-updates/

It used Grand Architect and friends to make tons of mana and cast huge artifacts. He even makes them bigger so they can crew better! Vedalken Engineer, Palladium Myr and Renowned Weaponsmith are all Sol Rings that can still crew vehicles, how neat is that?

HOW TO FIND A GIANT ANGEL SPEWING SPACESHIP

So I was in blue white, looking for a way to consistently find Parhelion II every game. That's easily solved by making Enlightened Tutor my Signature Spell, but that telegraphs the plan and puts a target on our heads! No, we needed to be secretive and devious.

ADDING BLACK FOR 3 CARDS?

Listen, Scrapheap Scrounger is a Vehicles staple and I love Ovalchase Daredevil. But Scheming Symmetry is the upgrade that sold me on Black. Sure, I'm tutoring for something, but so is that guy. Attack him too! Or let them get the answer to the lock that other guy has us under. It's politics that also finds our Parhelion, and I love it.

But it doesn't have to be Parhelion II! (Aww, but why not?) It could be anything, unlike Enlightened Tutor. A Miracle Terminus, perhaps? Weatherlight to gas back up in the long game?

BUT AMINATOU IS TOO YOUNG TO DRIVE

So that puts us in Esper, is that even good? Aminatou can't make tokens to crew vehicles or anything, but I guess she can draw the card we tutor right away?

Interestingly, she can still help crew multiple vehicles by flickering our biggest guy after he crews the first vehicle. He'll come back untapped and summoning sick, but okay to drive.

Do this same thing with Peregrine Drake and Cloud of Faeries for additional ramp and I think we can agree, the kid stays in the picture.

SOMEONE JUST WRATHED, WHAT DO WE DO?

Vehicles are naturally strong against sorcery speed Wraths, but our creatures are still vulnerable. Erratic Portal and Crystal Shard are wrath protection extraordinaire. Leave one mana up and wraths aren't nearly as painful. If you like Time Wipe, buy yourself some of these bad boys.

HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS

There's also a suite of cards that make tokens continuously and aren't touched by wraths. Thopter Spy Network is always really slow and grindy, but when the tokens are crewing vehicles to trigger the card draw, it's good tempo.

Ugin, the Ineffable makes most of the deck cheaper while still pumping out crew fodder that draw cards when they die.

Golden Guardian is a great kamikaze pilot, since he can crew, fight what he just crewed without killing the vehicle (most of the time), and set up shop making more baddies every turn.

NOT SPICY ENOUGH, GET WEIRDER

Scheming Symmetry with Chaos Wand out is a spicy meatball if you can get someone to play ball.

Ever cast Perplexing Chimera with Aminatou out? Against everything but Wraths, you're happy about it.

Traxos, Scourge of Kroog. Have you read this card? 4 mana 7/7 artifact that we can ramp out fast with trample and almost no downside.

Throne of the God-Pharaoh + Vehicles = Happy Feet! That ain't Falco! WOMBO COMBO!
