SB is a basic +1/ability counter themed deck where most people go-tall.
It does not combo off with a particular card and favors incremental gains.
A large hole in the deck is lack of consistent +1 counter & draw synergies.
Voltron is mostly dead in today’s meta and easily removing SB really slows your game.
This is my longest living deck and by far the weakest. I tried Grave-based, discard, & Voltron and I think the only build is midway between go tall or wide. The famed “go-medium” lol. Accept what it is and build in favor of flavor over Golgari good stuff.
Putting counters on SB isn’t easy. One counter per combat is trash. Many people go for double/additional +1 counter anthems. Too much of this effect puts you in glass-canon territory. Hardened Scales, Winding Constrictor, and Branching Evolution are the most efficient for their Mana Value. Pir, Imaginative Rascal is on the fence. Corpsejack Menace is too expensive for too little and Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider is better utilized in other decks.
Instead of shoehorning yourself into just making SB big and trying to double the few counters that you MAY get (after you suit up SB with evasion and protection), I prefer creatures/spells that give out counters. Play +1 counter synergy and smash with creatures. Keep it simple.
SB needs counters. SB needs a counter here and another there. Aim for things that keeping putting a counter on SB. I avoid "wait til upkeep" triggers; there's no way you can play around that much removal and board wipes.
SB’s most important abilities are Haste and keeping counters upon death/exile/command zone. I treat SB as a random creature of the deck that’s easy to replay from the command zone. It doesn’t anthem or build the board and trying to recur it from the grave is too niche.
Counter double instants (Solidarity of Heroes and Invigorating Surge) are trash and overly conditional.
