SB is a basic +1/ability counter themed deck where you can either go tall or wide.
It does not combo off with a particular card and favors incremental gains.
A large hole in the deck is lack of consistent +1 counter draw synergies.
Voltron is mostly dead in today’s meta and easily removing SB really slows your game.
This is my longest living deck and by far the weakest. I tried Grave-based, discard, & Voltron and I think the only build is midway between go tall or wide. The famed “go-medium.” Part of it is excepting it is what it is and building more in favor of flavor over Golgari good stuff.
It isn’t easy. Maybe get SB out T1/2 to get a counter before the board starts to build defenses. The player without creatures is probably spell slinger and just wipes SB when it attacks them.
Enchanting and Equipping SB is terrible because it’s already a target. It’s always better for second parties to anthem abilities onto SB (trample, menace).
Additional counter engines are neat but only go so far if counters aren’t even being placed in the first place.
Counter double instants (Solidarity of Heroes and Invigorating Surge) are trash and overly conditional.
Unspeakable Symbol is probably the best card in this deck. Yeah, it’s a lot of life for little payoff, but that’s aggro for you imo.
Forgotten Ancient is an easy way to build up a +1 counter army. The nice clause that you can move counters on any other creature(s).
+1 counter multiplying creatures need to be more than enchantments/blockers. Loyal Guardian can give purpose to everyone.
SB needs to make it through. Shadowspear, Rancor, and Canopy cover are small investments with less risk. Mask of Griselbrand pays itself off if you can equip it.
Is Graf Harvest good? Idk. It’s great for T2 SB.
Finale of Devastation into Kalonian Hydra.
I used to run Pathbreaker Ibex. Granting trample makes it arguably better, but the lack of +1 counters is a flavor loss.
+1 Counters are much like Auras. You’re always setting yourself up for 2-1’s or worse. I hate spot protection, but Heroic Intervention and Inspiring Call are the best bet to put together some sort of engine.
Generous Patron is an amazing, overlooked card. I first stumbled upon it in my Kenrith abilities deck. So many cards in this deck synergize with putting a counter on any creature. Drop an Unspeakable Symbol and draw as much as you want.
