Abyss of Dreams (Revised) (Pioneer)

WHAT IS THIS?

This deck is meant to use the Peer into the Abyss card, and all its wackyness, to make our opponent draw half their deck and die. I've optimized this deck pretty well, but it is always improving with new cards emerging. Check out the strategy and updates below. Comments are always helpful.

STRATEGY:

Strat 1:
Turn one: Land -> Shambling Ghast, or Warlock Class
Turn two: Land -> Tymaret, Chosen from Death or some other 2 mana card, or level 2 Warlock class.
Turn three: Land -> Underworld dreams
Turn four: Land -> Nyx Lotus
Turn five: Peer into the Abyss = win

Shambling Ghast should be prioritized for blocking and making treasure tokens. Faster mana gain is a faster win.

Strat 2:
Similar to strat 1, but you will need to focus on black devotion and win with either Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Gray Merchant of Asphodel
Occasionally opponents will catch on to what you are doing and having a backup does help.

Update 10/29/2020:
-Optimized removal by adding Eliminate, heartless act.
-Added more card draw with Foulmire Knight // Profane Insight, Village Rites.
-Added Call of the Death-Dweller, and Bastion of Remembrance for better synergies.

Sideboard Update:
-Removed Kaervek, the Spiteful, and other things that I already forgot.
-Added Necromentia (This is a dirty card)

-Removed Cling to Dust, and Bastion of Remembrance
-Added Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Bloodchief's Thirst

I feel like this deck is all about devotion so I thought, more removal, and more ways to kill our opponents using Gary (Gray Merchant of Asphodel). That is where our Italian cousin Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose comes in.

Sideboard Update:
-Removed some stuff
-Added Grim Tutor, Wishclaw Talisman, Erebos, Bleak-Hearted

I put in more tutors and more value for our creatures dying as well as our devotion to black so that is why Erebos is here.

Update 5/3/2021
Hello! It's been a while. Here is what has changed:
-Removed Ayara, First of Locthwain. She did not see much play at all. With Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose it did not make sense to have her in.

Update 5/16/2021
-Removed Erebos, Bleak-Hearted and replaced it with Eliminate in the sideboard.
-I put Cling to Dust in place of Eliminate in the main board.

UPDATE: 9/20/2021

TIS A SAD DAY!!! This deck is mostly being rotated out of Standard. It's a shame I know, but some good things must come to an end eventually. But fear not! Pioneer is still a thing and this deck can still compete. It may also open up new opportunities for more optimization.

Update: 10/6/2021
-Added Warlock class. This will give us another win condition with level 3 if we cannot find an Underworld Dreams
-Added Village rites. This will synergize with the Warlock class and give us more card draw.
-Added Rankle, Master of Pranks. He helps with more card draw but also some board and hand interaction that is needed.

-I changed my mind, Ayara, First of Locthwain does a better job than Rankle, Master of Pranks. Considering I've also added Shambling Ghast Ayara, First of Locthwain synergizes really well.[/quote]

Update: 6/2/2023 (Been a while xD)
-Removed village rites, even though it had some synergy with the Warlock class it was very situational because it required a creature. Sometimes I did not get a creature in hand or it was just removed by the opponent. Ayara, First of Locthwain is more of a better choice.
