Pauper EDH is an alternative format that uses any uncommon creature as the commander, the 99 are commons.

This mono-red deck is built around Warchief Giant, a creature with the sweet ability Myriad. It's one of my favourite keywords and was followed up with the equally sweet keyword Encore.

Warchief is part of a Myriad cycle along with; Broodbirth Viper, Herald of the Host, Banshee of the Dread Choir and Caller of the Pack. They're all decent choices for a commander if you ask me.

I wasn't quite sure where to take the deck, Warchief's upside is the built in haste but with no evasion or protection it's unreliable to get in damage. So I decided to treat it as a wide burn spell, much like the other theme of the deck — Dragon's Approach. (Finally found a deck for that card, yay!) So the deck plays a linear burn (group slug?) game plan, forfeiting any ideas of controlling the board.

Let's talk about Dragon's Approach (DA), it requires 4 copies in the graveyard as you resolve your 5th in order to put a dragon into play, with the current 35 copies in the deck we have about a 50% chance to have drawn 5 copies by T6 (not accounting for any additional card draw) and assuming we hit all land drops or some ramp. (Casting DA T3, T4, T5, T6, T6), alternatively a probability of 59% to have 5 copies by T7.

So, should we run more card draw? Mono-red PDH has access to very little card advantage (outside of the CZ), we could run looting/rummaging spells to put DA in the grave but that means we're not throwing away our lands, wouldn't we rather just play more DA's instead of rummage/looting? I might be missing something, let me know!

So the DA numbers don't look great in my opinion but that's ok! We run other "symmetrical" burn alongside them. For example Spear Spewer, Firebrand Archer, Thermo-Alchemist, Brimstone Trebuchet and Lobber Crew. One could argue since these pingers need to hit 3 times to match a DA they could be replaced however having some bodies is helpful. They also work well with Wildfire Elemental which can buff all 3 Warchief Giants.

Potential payoffs for DA are also pitiful, I decided on Lightning Shrieker as a "repeatable" 5 damage and Rapacious Dragon as a backup.

There's also some slight buffs to the commander, Impact Tremors triggers off of the summoned copies, Cliffhaven Kitesail, Bladed Pinions, Goblin War Drums and Whispersilk Cloak for evasion, Hanweir Lancer provides first strike for the commander (copies are expendable) and the aforementioned Wildfire Elemental can offer some considerable buffs (just keep in mind only instant speed noncombat damage buffs the copies of Warchief).

Lastly I'll mention the few sources of card draw available in the deck, mostly Monarch as ideally we'd be able to always be able to attack each opponent & the aggressive bodies are helpful, (and Monarch is a fun mechanic). Galvanic Relay is worth trying and Merchant of the Vale offers repeatable looting. Burning Prophet offers card selection which helps dig for those DA's.

I forgot to mention; there's a few 2cmc mana rocks in the deck to hopefully smooth out the mana curve just a bit (very 3cmc, 5cmc heavy)

Thank you for reading! If you have any ideas or suggestions, I'm all ears.
