Pauper EDH is an alternative format that uses any uncommon creature as the commander and the 99 are commons.
This mono-green deck is built around Theolonite Druid, sort of a Sylvan Awakening on a stick.
The idea is to ramp like crazy and then animate your lands for some big beats. Additionally there's a few big beaters we run since we can get to 8+ mana reliably.
Theolonite Druid's ability requires a sacrifice; a lot of our ramp is creature-based so they're an easy pick. In a pinch you can sac the commander to itself.
2/3's aren't very big even if you have a lot of them but we have Might of the Masses, Echoing Courage and Strength in Numbers to buff those numbers. Keep in mind you need 2 mana to activate the commander and 1-2 mana to cast the spell so unless you're using mana from Khalni Garden / Llanowar Visionary / Bonder's Ornament / Krosan Restorer / Elvish Abberation you're "wasting" Forest attackers.
We have a tertiary benefit from all the ramp; Jaddi Offshoot, Territorial Scythecat, Timbermaw Larva and Grazing Gladehart. While they don't directly contribute to the land-animating plan they provide enough benefit to be included in the deck. Also worth mentioning is Scion of the Wild which gets huge once the lands are animated.
I'll mention the slight package of card selection in the deck; Abundant Harvest, Fa'adiyah Seer, Mulch, Winding Way, Sprouting Vines, Yavimaya Elder and Krosan Tusker. Most of them provide lands to hand which is always a benefit, especially if we have Skyshroud Ranger / Sakura-Tribe Scout in play.
Lastly I'll mention Night Soil, Sprout Swarm and Broken Fall. The first two provide tokens to sac to the commander or for chump-blocking, the latter is an easy way to protect the commander or a big buddy, we can pay the mana-cost upfront since the deck likes to tap out.
The main weakness of the deck is the almost complete lack of interaction. The deck really wants to do its own thing and I didn't find a way to include ramp/payoffs that can deal with problematic permanents. If they land an oubliette on your commander that's it. It's gone. The big beaters are a fine backup in those scenarios but I'd like to find some rampish-interaction.
