Araumi is a flexible commander with an adaptive playstyle revolving around the Encore mechanic. Creating copies of your own creatures with varying effects can truly come to your benefit! This happens in three main ways: enter the battlefield triggers, combat triggers, and death triggers. Using Araumi's ability allows creatures like Plaguecrafter, Solemn Simulacrum, Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Corpse Connoisseur to get the most value for their slot in the deck. Encore also makes your new hasty creatures fight, so Impaler Shrike grabs you up to NINE cards off of an Encore activation! Really great to have around in a pinch. These tokens are sacrificed at the end of the turn, so taking advantage of

The deck is divided into two main phases. First is self mill, which was scary at first, but the way this deck is built, Araumi's value shines here.
Running pieces like Deranged Assistant and Millikin let you use them as milly-rocks. The new Court of Cunning is really great because you can mill yourself and others when you're the monarch. Since Encore forces combat, you'll most likely be the monarch often. The real fun card is Mesmeric Orb, which combos infinitely with encored Fatestitcher / Vizier of Tumbling Sands for a Thassa's Oracle for the win. Specific cards like Corpse Connoisseur and Gravebreaker Lamia can tutor cards into the graveyard so you can always have them.

The second phase is actually using Encore.
I'll break this down pretty simply because this commander confused me when I first saw it.

  1. Tap Araumi.
  2. Exile X cards from your graveyard where X is number of opponents
  3. Target creature in your graveyard gets encore until END OF TURN -- Encore cost is its CMC.

The exiling part is important, but you can always exile lands or cards that you really don't need in your grave. That being said, it is a very important aspect of the deck strategy that players at your table will remind you about.

Encoring cards will take advantage of your ETB cards first. Early game cards to encore are Solemn Simulacrum, Stitcher's Supplier, Mire Triton, Baleful Strix, and Impaler Shrike. This is to help you get great value out of the copies that you have. Try casting the cards normally so that they can get in the graveyard to be encored out for more value.

Mid-game cards to encore out include Gravebreaker Lamia, Gonti, Ravenous Chupacabra, Thief of Sanity, Vindictive Lich, and Noxious Gearhulk, which can all be played for their extra effects as well.

Late-game cards and all stars are Kokusho, Massacre Wurm, Cavalier of Night, and Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Using Sundial of the Infinite before your endstep allows you to end the turn before the tokens are sacrificed so you can have extra bodies or more devotion in black to power up Gray Merchant.

This deck is a lot of fun, I'd love to have some feedback or even see people try it for themselves :^)
