[GUIDE] Build-A-Beast (EDH / Commander)

What's the biggest mutate counter? You focus all your resources in a single creature.

This deck attempts to fix that simple problem, Build-A-Beast focus on creating mutated creatures, creating copies of said creatures and bouncing the originals so you can re-construct and save your precious original creatures. It's like having your own monster factory pumping out horrors!

Recursion

Otrimi, the Ever-Playful, is in charge of recurring your mutate creatures, the rest may be picked up by the Sword of Light and Shadow.
Since the base creatures (the ones we intend to mutate into) dont have the mutate ability we added Find // Finality as a means to grab those creatures.

Survivability

Bouncing your creatures can also be used to save them from removals that would undo all progress so far, for that we use the Crystal Shard on ourselves to bounce our creatures without paying the extra cost.
Other ways to survive with few creatures is to insure that they have protection from hate spells, if your creature doesn't have hexproof or indestructible we can always protect it with Asceticism, Slip Out the Back and Tamiyo's Safekeeping.
Quick tip: dont be afraid to attack with your commander even with blockers, an early 6/6 with trample is sure to hurt a little, even if its removed the effect still triggers, abling you to return creatures from your graveyard.

Building the Masses

Once you have a solid creature you want to start thinking about cloning that creature, cards that mention themselves such as Scute Swarm and Spawnwrithe actually create tokens of the creature on top with all the mutations it had when the token was created, we can also create tokens and copies using Progenitor Mimic and Extravagant Replication.
Extravagant Replication can also insure that you always have a creature you can mutate into since it can also copy opponent creatures.
Important: The legendary rule still applies in some cases, so beware of when to clone and what to clone

Cool Interactions

Since casting a mutate ability counts as spell targeting a creature you control Season of Growth, Vesuvan Duplimancy and Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief, will bring big value to the game, for example casting a mutate creature onto a base creature while thos three cards are in your field will grant you an additional base creature, an additional mutate trigger onto Ivy, scry and double card draw.
Granting creatures flash with Vivien, Champion of the Wilds or even Tidal Barracuda allows you to mutate at instant speed, getting some cheeky plays during your opponents turn.

Ending Notes

As always I provide some alterations in gameplay and strategy with the cards in the maybeboard, jank to your hearts contempt, this is not an CEDH deck but I think it can hold it's own. I usually play 1v1 commander so some cards might have be adapted when facing multiple opponents (mainly lands).
