This is not the typical Kenrith deck, where you want to abuse Kenrith's abilities and go infinite or you play politics by spporting your opponents.
> > > > > The old deck in completely new < < < < <
Main idea:
The approach of this deck is to take a creature-heavy Queen Marchesa deck and go 5 color. This deck is a powerhouse. Using Kenrith you have access to all 5 colors to play the best beaters, best protectors, buff your creatures, recurse your graveyard or abuse his abilities. This deck is supposed to be grindy and would be more competitive if infinite mana combo pieces like Pemmin's Aura are included in the deck. But that's not its purpose.Gameplan:
The gameplan is to watch the other players destroy each other while getting enough mana in order to make a big play. With only Kenrith and a couple of mana dorks on the board, for most of the games, you pose the least threat. In magical dreamland you can play a combo of two creatures (e.g. Aurelia, the Warleader + Medomai the Ageless) and win the game out of nowhere, but this is not what's needed here. What are the strategies?
Ramp a lot and then do stuff: see below
Hidden Commanders: Kaalia of the Vast acts as a hidden commander. Most of your creatures are Angels/Demons/Dragons and have great impact on entering the battlefield.
1.1 Make a big play: Aurelia, the Warleader + Medomai, the Ageless or Ilharg, the Raze-Board + Razaketh or ... or Kaalia of the Vast - > Master of Cruelties (kills and opponent immediately)
1.2 Protect your attack: Kalia of the Vast - > Razaketh in play or Ilhard - > Razaketh in play - > sacrifice a creature search for Teferi's protection or Flawless Maneuver (if you need a free spell)Use Kenrith's abilities: with enough mana we can draw cards. buff our creatures, recurse our stuff ... most importantly there are cards like Biomancer's Familiar, Training Grounds and Zirda, the Dawnwaker. They cheapen Kenrith's abilities, so that you might even recurse creatures from your graveyard for one mana.
2.1 Since there are ability cheapeners in the deck like Biomancer's Familiar, Training Grounds and Zirda, the Dawnwaker, you can easily activate abilities of other creatures, such as The Scarab God.
2.2 If Tainted Remedy is in play you can 'give' your opponents 5 life. With an ability cheapener on the battlefield 8 mana is enough to get rid of 40 life. He/she has more than 40 life? - > Master of CrueltiesYou don't have Training Grounds in play? You need draw (Silvan Library)? Or you need to get rid of a commander or planeswalker (Imprisoned in the Moon)? Say no more - > Zur the Enchanter
If Kenrith gets killed a lot and you don't have The Scarab God or you really need an important creature from your graveyard and for whatever reason can't recurse it, you still have Lazav, the Multifarious who can become any creature in your graveyard. What do you need? Cheapen abilities (Biomancer's Familiar)? Quick attack (Kaalia of the Vast)? Board wipe (Balefire Dragon)?
Remarks:
- You are pretty resilient to milling, because milling enables Kenrith's 5th ability (you actually love getting milled).
- Graveyard hate? No problem. You don't need to play with your graveyard.
- The deck plays extremely well with Kenrith on the board, but can also work without him. One of the downsides of the deck I build, are the low draw cards. Kenrith draws cards for you, but if he gets killed, you lose access to that, so maybe it's wiser to add draw spells!?!?!?!?!
Last Remarks:
- I created this deck, because I wanted to play Queen Marchesa creature-based, but didn't like her drawbacks. I build this particular version, because I saw Balefire Dragon and Master of Cruelties and I wanted to play those cards! It feels so good to hit your opponents with either of them.
- Since this deck is very creature heavy with higher than average CMC, there are obvious weaknesses But I think it's a ton of fun and people don't expect this type of Kenrith deck.
- Do you know how broken Kogla, the Titan Ape is? OMG. I'm not sure if I have ever gotten so much value of another card across all my decks. Play him. He's so amazing... why is he only a couple of cents?
This deck shares some similarities with my Joda, the Ultimate Stax Controller deck https://deckstats.net/decks/131397/1394769-jodah-the-ultimate-stax-contro/de. The Jodah deck's gameplan is more of a complete lockdown and very fun.
