My favorite part about this deck is when you can say, "IT'S MORPHIN' TIME" and morph all over your opponents.

This deck revolves around the morph mechanic, and it makes the most of it with Obscuring Aether, Secret Plans, and Trail of Mystery. Aim to surprise your opponent with big boys, shapeshifters, and counters.

Strategy

Optimally, you want to set up a few of the deck's premier enchantments early on. Commune with Spirits can pull one up or even pick up a land if needed be.

Then, announce "I play X cards face down and end my turn." You are required to say this every single time in an overly dramatic, masculine voice. If not, you will not believe in the heart of the cards and inevitably lose.

Deathmist Raptor is really nice. Offensive stats, deathtouch, and free returns to the battlefield.

However, Vesuvan Shapeshifter is the MVP here. Being able to copy your morphed creatures and still trigger their face up triggers is really nice. On top of that, you can flip this card face down on your upkeep to trigger those abilities again! Continuous counter spells from Stratus Dancer, counters from Hooded Hydra and Salt Road Ambushers, and eternal-witness with Den Protector.

Interactions to Remember

  • When a card turns face up or face down, it retains its counters. For example, a Vesuvan Shapeshifter with five +1/+1 counters can be turned face down to become a 2/2 creature with five +1/+1 counters.
  • You can morph Zoetic Cavern as it is blocking; because the attacker has no valid blocker, it does not assign combat damage at all from attacking unless it has trample.
  • A card turned face down with Ixidron must have a morph-like ability to be turned face up in play; thus, your opponent likely cannot turn them face up.
  • Morph, megamorph, and manifest abilities constitute special actions. This means they do not enter the stack when flipping them, so this action cannot be countered and triggers will bypass Split Second cards.
