Tarot mini cube (Highlander)

I started playing magic when ice age was released until visions.

I focussed on building a 100 card deck with all the cards I could trade for that were restricted and black bordered. Back then, alpha was cheaper than beta, so the first single card I bought was an alpha berserk.

Deck at this time just had one dual land and the ice age pain lands, and was frequently mana screwed, so it had lots of icy manipulators to grid things down.

For 25 years this deck was always stored somewhere safe where I was living. I would browse it on rainy autumn days, but never really think about new sets.

For all I knew, magic was long gone. I assumed the new cards were never ever going to be as strong as the cards I aspired to owning back then, so why bother?
The black bordered power was already expensive in the 90’s (for cardboard)

As a typical magic boomer during the Covid pandemic, I taught my first son to play magic. Partially because he had to find a game or hobby that did not revolve around pixels, and obviously because we were in lockdown.

The deck is 100 cards so we would randomly split it into two piles of 50 cards and play a game not knowing what was in the deck.

The tutor cards were doubly helpful to actually see the cards the were in the deck.

He eventually wanted to play newer sets, crack packs, and have his own 100 card deck.

He pulled a mystical archive demonic tutor in the first packs and I was shocked at how awesome it looked.

We drafted modern horizons 2 and I was hooked all over again, buying singles from sets that came out after I stopped playing or cards I always wanted to own, or new ones that offer new advantages.

On a more esoteric note. It is also a divination tool I use. I pick 3 cards at random from time to time. it’s actually incredible how magic cards represent basic truths, and by juxtaposing them, your intuition can connect them in a meaningful way.
