This deck was created during the Zendikar/M2010/M2011 cycle and I played it a lot in FNM matches. It is an optimized vampire tribal.
The most important cards are bloodghast and vampire nocturnus. The 1 and 2 mana creatures Viscera Seer and Kalastria Highorn benefit from the cycling bloodghast that returns from graveyard every turn you can play a land. If Vampire Nocturnus is on the field, the scry effect of viscera seer helps to get permanent bonus. The Gatekeeper and Vampire Nighthawk are just for control as well as the spells are. This deck is aggro and wants to clean the field to hit the opponent again and again with fast small vampires.
I was not sure about the captivating vampire because I am only interested in the +1/+1 effect, not in the ability that allows to take over control of opponents creature (he should not have any good ones if everything is working well). Alternatives were the Stromkirk Captain for a similar bonus, Bloodhusk Ritualist for more control or vampire hexmage against planeswalkers. Finally I selected the stromkirk captain and put some red color in. Terminate replaced go for the throat as well as dragonskull summit and graven cairns replaced some swamps.
This deck is not the cheapest one but very solid, reliable and nice to play.
Recently I added Sorin and Liliana Planeswalkers which both turned out to be quite efficient as they clear the opponents board and enhance your creatures.

Sidebord choices: The Gatekeeper of Malakir can replace one Vampire Nighthawk and the planeswalkers if you think you need more creature control. The Kalastria Highborn is an option for one Vampire Nighthawk as well if the opponent plays defenisve and has walls and indestructible creatures that keeps you in a passive position that you don't want to have. Your win option then is sacrificing the Bloodghast again and again to use Kalastria Highborn 's effect.
Instead of Twilight prophet, you can use Anowon, the Ruin Sage in the late game. I prefer the Twilight prophet as he brings some late game card draw which is always nice to have.
