This deck is my verion of a modern snow deck, and as many before, it wants to get Marit Lage out.

As many many guys before, I try to use Marit Lage's Slumber and therefore want to play snow permanents. It just feels so cool if you manage to get that badass token out, even in most cases you have already lost at that point or your Abominable Treefolk has already done the job for you...
I just wanted to build a modern deck that has a chance to do it and is still playable in casual and FNM.

About the deck:

Mana:
The only color combo that is useful if you want to play snow creatures in my opinion is simic colors u/g. Therefore the deck focusses on them. There are two cards however that are worth putting in some white and black: On Thin Ice as a removal that brings you another snow permanent and Dead of Winter which is a board wipe in a snow deck. Both are so useful that I decided to run them. To do so, I added 4 Arcum's Astrolabe for manafixing.

Creatures:
The Boreal Druid is a solid start and I am still unsure if it is worth running 4 or if 3 are enough. The next ones in the list are 4 Ice-Fang Coatl as they are a self replacing removal and the best snow creature in my experience. The Ohran Viper is in here for additional removal and card draw and of course I want to play 4 Abominable Treefolk which becomes a real huge threat. I put in 2 Knight of Autumn for enchantment hate or as live point source if neccessary and additionally it can serve as a blocker if needed.

Sorcery:
As there are 45 snow permanents and only 15 other spells, the Glacial Revelation gives you 4-5 cards in average and is a must. Into the North would be an alternative if you are in trouble with mana base however I don't use it here.
I already mentioned that Dead of Winter is worth putting some black in as it provides a board wipe and is very effective agains any token army or other nasty stuff.

Instants:
There is only one instant that is meant for protecting your key cards Abominable Treefolk and Marit Lage's Slumber / Marit Lage: Negate. This should do the job. It is also very effective against planeswalkers.

Enchantment:
Of course there is Marit Lage's Slumber which I used 3 times.
On the other hand there is On Thin Ice as snow permanent that provides a spot removal.

Others:
I use lightning greaves because I want to swing with Marit Lage or Abominable Treefolk as soon as possible. 2 copys should fit.

Sideboarding:
There are some adjustments to be made, depending on the matchup you are facing. The deck is not a top tear modern deck so it is vulnerable from many angels and you need to prepare well:
Against aggro and wheenie / tokens you should run 3 dead of winter and maybe an additional frostwalk bastion.
Against counter-heavy blue decks use veil of summer instead of dead of winter.
For fighting planeswalkers you need 4 negate copys and the pithing needle.
And against anything that plays out of the graveyard you should put some nihil spellbomb copys in.
The Blizzard Strix can provide more card advantage and additional blocks and bring back a creature that was highjacked by our opponent.

Conclusion:
Using a 20/20 token for a devastating swing is always nice but very hard to manage. I tried to make this happen with this deck, even it will never be able to beat the top dogs out there. But remember it is meant to have fun.

Feel free to discuss about the deck.
