1st FNM: 2:0, 2:0, 1-2
The last match was close; against a guy playing R/U madness Goggles.
This deck performed really well: shred the hand, remove the creatures, deploy big guys that take over the game. In one of the games I had Transgress the Mind on Turns 2 and 3, followed with a Though-Knot Seer on turn 4, after which the opponent simply didn't have a viable hand anymore.
One thing to keep in mind: this deck can drain its own life fast, and if no Kalitas comes around, it is vulnerable to fast attacks even from a commanding board position.
2nd FNM: Bye, 2:1, 2:1; 1:2
I lost against the GW Tokens deck that ended up winning the Pro Tour :-)
Against a control deck I managed to play T1 Duress, T2 Transgress the Mind, T3 Duress, T4 Thought-Knot Seer, T5 Reality Smasher, at which point the game was just done.
Spatial Contortion and Mortuary Mire are the first cards to take out, as well as one Rogue's Passage, while Blighted Fen really saved me two times.
V 2.0 is now with a splash of white for manlands and Declaration in Stone.
If you want to play a straight-forward deck after rotation, one that wins you games, this will be it.
There are no color combinations besides Wastes + one other that have 8 untapped dual lands (the 5 pain lands), which is an insane amount of mana fixing for almost free (only one of the two colors creates damage on use)
Black has the best removal in a standard environment that seems to get a bit slower and midrangier, as well as the best discard (which hurts more the more decks are skewed towards the later game). It can also attack Planeswalkers really well, of which there seem to be a lot of playable ones right now, from Jace and Gideon to Arlinn all the way to Sorin. The only thing it lacks without access to white are exile effects, of which the two best (with single white mana, meaning Stasis Snare is out) are probably Declaration in Stone and Anguished Unmaking. With four Shambling Vent, this deck would have 8 white mana, which is enough for a splash
Eldrazi have the some really good midrange creatures. Reality Smasher is simply a card that should not exist, Thought-Knot Seer can unravel the opponent's game plan and Matter Reshaper is a free card-draw and/or ramp.
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet is one of the strongest overall cards in the new standard, and he fits right in this deck (with him, Wasteland Strangler's ETB ability becomes probable enough)
The Eldrazi have access to a wide range of utility lands, which for them do not have the drawback of producing colorless mana (Wastes is a sixth color in every way that matters). Where a normal deck might allow itself 3 or 4, this deck gets 11
Other Eldrazi color combinations might be more fun, or more interactive, but the black version is just pure power and disruption.
Oh, and this deck is cheap relative to its power. Currently, in Germany, it's around 80 dollars or so.
There ramp creatures in the CMC2 spot, as on turn two, this deck either wants to ramp to be able to play Tought-Knot Seer, Kalitas and Reality Smasher early, or destroy an opponent's important early creature, or make him discard a pivotal card with Transgress the Mind. So far, I have not found a CMC2 black or colorless creature that is really convincing as a powerful threat that links into the deck's synergies (as Fleecemane Lion was for Abzan), but I am trying Bearer of Silence as a two-of.
The reason I am not running white as well is that I do not see that much enhancement to the deck for what I lose in the manabase. Either I go with some Shambling Vent s, which means I have more lands that come into play tapped, or with more basics. In any case, the main plus would be to have access to even better removal, specially Anguished Unmaking and Slikwrap (which exiles and powers up Wasteland Strangler). White generally allows for more meaningful ways to get rid of a transformed Ormendahl. If the latter really blows up Standard, playing white might become necessary. White also give access to Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, which is probably the best two-drop for this deck, if it wants to curve out better using creatures and not spells, since Ayli will usually be able to trade with something better than her against aggro, and gets in some early damage against other slower decks.
