Go wide but stay resilient vs mass removal!
Hangarback Walker, Sultai Emissary and Carrier Thrall all replace themselves upon death. Which means this deck can still present lethal threats even after a board wipe. The deck plays a plethora of 2 drops including Dragon Fodder to try and go wide. On t4 you can often play 2 spells or Pia and Kiran Nalaar and then you have pump spells to finish the game.
I started with Kolaghan, The Storm's Fury as finisher but decided to drop him for a number of reasons. First of all, the big dragon often just dies to removal or gets countered by Ojutai's Command. So I felt like I needed better and cheaper ways to close games and I didn't want to splash green for Atarka's Command/Become Immense. Well I remembered this card called Trumpet Blast which gives all attacking creatures +2/+0. That is 6 damage if you only have 2 lousy thopters in play which sounds awesome. Then I found out about this other card called Swarm Surge which basically does the same thing but also has a neat bonus for colorless creatures! Sure, sorcery speed kinda sucks but it's still great for a deck trying to go wide. Not to mention Forerunner of Slaughter, thopters, scions and manifests are all colorless too so I figured why not give it a try. :) Also the first strike can be relevant vs x/3 creatures like Mantis Rider.
Having so many colorless creatures makes the deck naturally strong vs Ultimate Price as well as Ugin, the Spirit Dragon.
Sideboard explanation:
They will probably side in some board wipes like Languish, Radiant Flames or Planar Outburst. Which is why I have Vaultbreaker to combat sorcery speed removal. This could be a number of dash creatures (Goblin Heelcutter, Dust Stalker, Pitiless Horde, Flamerush Rider etc.). But I felt the loot that Vaultbreaker provides is very valuable against control decks.
Act of Treason is there for huge problematic creatures like Siege Rhino, Woodland Wanderer or Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. No matter what huge blocker they have you can steal it and swing for lethal or represent lethal next turn. And of course Collateral Damage is there to get rid of that stolen creature while also giving the deck a little bit of reach/removal (important vs Atarka Combo).
And finally Kolaghan's Command and Duress are no brainers. We want to take away their board wipe, planeswalkers and removal. And Kcommand allows us to get back Pia and Kiran Nalaar, Hangarback Walker or Vault Breaker while also serving as instant speed removal/hand disruption.
