Haven't played this yet, but I based it on a number of "best rat deck"s out there, primarily Riff Rat. I built this to my tastes, but also to be as affordable as possible. I would love to have Swarmyards and more Cabal Coffers, but that would put the deck price over $140!

This deck's play-style is all about synergy. I noticed a lot of rat decks were about withering the opponent's hand, but I wanted to put more focus on the rats. This deck forgoes board control, hex proof, and disenchanting. It's very straight-forward. Here's how it works:

CREATURES:

The main player in this deck is, of course, Relentless Rats. You have ten of them in the deck for a reason: the Thrumming Stone (see Artifacts below).

Typhoid Rats scare my group. No one likes deathtouch.

Ravenous Rats are cheap and force the opponent to discard.

Swarm of Rats are also cheap and get bonuses for rats you have in play.

Marrow-Gnawer is your right-hand man. He gives all rats Fear and you can sac a rat to create a horde of 1/1 rats on the board.

Ratcatcher is your left-hand man. He has Fear and allows you to draw rats from the deck to your hand.

ARTIFACTS:

Coat of Arms is awesome because it gives all of your rats +1/+1 just for being rats, and it stacks. If you have 4 rats in play, you get FOUR +1/+1 counters on each rat. Oh yeah...

Demon's Horn is cheap and gives you 1 life any time a black spell is cast - and you have 19 spells in this deck. ;) Best part: you can stack this effect by playing multiple Demon's Horns.

Thrumming Stone. It's expensive (this is why you have 4 Dark Rits at your disposal), but it works great with the Relentless Rats. And and all spells you cast have Ripple, so you will be casting lots of Relentless Rats in a short amount of time. If you pull both the Thrumming Stone and a Dark Rit early on, you will have a huge advantage over your opponents!

PLANESWALKER:

Apart from being a distraction device, I chose to bring aboard Liliana of the Dark Realms because she is affordable and keeps you rich in mana.

SORCERIES:

Infest, at first glance, doesn't seem all that great. But when coupled with Sudden Spoiling, it can be a game-changer. I would use this card to reset your opponent's board, especially when you have fewer creatures than your opponent. Use this AFTER you play Sudden Spoiling. You may need a Dark Rit to pull this off, so keep that in mind as you work toward building this combo.

INSTANTS:

Dark Ritual is cash-money for you. Use it to bring out your left and right hand men early on or pay the outrageous cost to throw down a Thrumming Stone. It's also a great way to pay for that Infest/Sudden Spoiling combo.

Sudden Spoiling. Oh man. So check this out: use this card to bring creature every creature your opponent controls to 0/2, and then, during your next step, play Infest to give all creatures -2/-2... killing ALL of your opponent's creatures!

LANDS:

14 Swamp, your meat and potatoes.

Cabal Coffers allow you to pay 2 Colorless to add black mana to your pool for every land you currently have on the board. Too bad these are so expensive, or else I would have put more in the deck. :(

Crypt of Agadeem. Got lots of rats in the graveyard? Good. When you tap this sucker, you generate black mana for every creature that is in your graveyard.

And that's it! Let me know how it all plays out for you! I'm open to suggestions for improving this deck as well. Have fun!
